I was not circumcised at birth. I never had a problem staying completely clean. There was no odor. When I started having sex regularly, there were irritations. I could resolve the problems but they kept recurring. I discussed it with my doctor. He said it depends on the flora and fauna of each particular vagina. Those microscopic life forms are protective to the female and are difficult to wash away. I got myself circumcised and had no more trouble.

Like most of us kids who were born in the USA, none of us thought or knew anything about circumcison. We were the way we were and all us guys looked the same. We were happy , when married, our wives were happy, but now, in the last few years, all of a sudden its a big problem! What happened?

Chic I think it is an influx of people from outside the USA and Canada that are not circumcised, different religious views and customs.

I think a big part of the reason circumcision is now a big issue in the US is that information about sex and sexuality has greatly increased in both quantity and dissemination. Also, the sense of entitlement to sexual pleasure has increased. Therefore, more men are hearing that they may receive less sexual sensation because of their circumcision, and feeling a greater sense that they should be angry about it.

Quite frankly, I also think a lot of it has to do with the rise of the cult of victimization in our country. How can men cash in on this whole victim thing? By discovering we were "victimized" when we were circumcized. And, hey, it also gives us a great early childhood trauma to blame any later anti-social behavior on.

I also think apart of it is that circumcision often has a religious connotation, and we live in a society that increasingly rejects and opposes anything done out of a religious motivation.

I wasn't circumcised at birth but wish I had been. I had many problems growing up. As I got older it became more difficult to retract the foreskin until eventually it wouldn't retract at all. I was circumcised when I was 12 years old for this reason at the suggestion of my aunt who was a nurse. The problem is called phimosis and is not that uncommon among boys due to the fact as the penis grows the urethral opening in the foreskin does not which causes constriction. If th foreskin gets caught behind the rim of the penis and cannot be returned it is an emergency situation which may require immediate circumcision or loss of the penis is possible. After circumcision, I was very hyper=sensitive to the extent I couldn't even stand clothing to rub the glans. That lessened over time ( thank goodness ) and today is not a problem. Like has been mentioned previously, there are many styles and types of circumcision so you can have it done to your preference if you wish. It is common to have the frenulum removed at that time also to make it smoother and so as not to subject it to tearing as it would be exposed. An excellent website on the subject is www.circlist.com or .org, don't remember exactly. Hope this info helps

The experience of desertnude really puts serious light on this subject. Certainly a pro vs the stated no by many, when considering circumcision for your sons!

Cheef; I got a big laugh out of your commontary, but you know, there are people just like that. You brought up a point Cheef that I am curious about. I hope its okay with Admin if I ask this, I don't want to get detention again, but is there a difference in feeling for sexual pleasure for men that are circumsized as opposed to men that are not?

Kim,

Since most men have not been in both states, it can only be a matter of opinion of wheather the circumcised male has the same or less sexual pleasure than the uncircumcised male. Although circumcised, I certainly am able to be pleasured.

My understanding is that there are a greater number of nerve endings, and therefore a greater sensitivity, for those who are not.

Then again, I'm not a doctor and I don't even play one on TV. Come to think of it, I didn't even play 'doctor' as a kid.

As I was having sex before being circumcised and also after, and because I asked myself that question, I can say that in my case there might have been a very small difference, but not one large enough to be sure it was real.

Since your one of the few before/after "circs" on this site, I really appreciate your sharing your experience with us.

If sensitivity isn't such a big factor in considering circumsion for our children, then this whole new movement to prevent it seems to based on an emotion rather than fact.

Also, I know the issue against circumcision became more notable when the big managed care insurance companies, a few years ago, stopped paying for the procedure. The noise they received from their insureds was so great, they quickly reversed themselves.

Thanks for the reply StuffedTiger, I was just wondering if that would be an issue fueling the circumcision debate.
