We were there today and the blue mobi-mat was installed as well. We got there around 7:30am and left around 2p. The lot was full as we were leaving but the beach didn't seem to crowded. A larger than normal part is rope off for the piping clovers breeding grounds.

I was there on Sunday and didn't see the regular group that we chill with on the weekdays. I did not hear anyone talking about anyone, either. I am not on FB so that doesn't help

Spent the past two days there, and IMO Sandy Hook is nearing 100%.
All the lots were open in their entirety, aside from "F", which is an afterthought anyway.
The main road is nearly completed, and it's maybe twice as wide as it used to be. I don't see any parking issues aside from what we're already used to.
Here I go again, but the beach crowd still is composed of an alarming number of disgusting, fat, repulsive, geriatric, moronic male gawkers. My lady-friend encountered a couple of HS girls out for a new experience on our way in, and she encouraged them to set-up near us to have a buffer from those losers.
It only kinda-sorta worked. I spent more time berating and chasing-off the A-holes who sought to park themselves 6' away from the girls than I did enjoying the ocean. It felt like a job. And worse, the girls felt like they were under siege, and I doubt they'll ever trust a CO area again... And why should they, when cowardly predators such as I describe above are allowed to rape them with their eyes? Maybe the next time, there will nobody around to look out for them.
After 10 years of this, I'm growing tired of the BS. There seems to be no limit to the profound stupidity of these revolting cretins. Be advised that if you go there on a weekday with a female, you'll have to bring your set along, or put up with it.

It would be nice to see the Mobi-Mats extended further out to lessen the difficulty for some on that long walk out to the beach. It should be extended out close to the first life guard stand.

That walk IS long, but maybe it's a good thing that it is... Several of the usual old-man gawkers can barely handle it anymore, and I'm expecting that half of them will just stay home and watch porn next summer, which will be a major improvement in the atmosphere there.
(While I'm on the general topic, there seem to be almost no young male gawkers there anymore, and that's a good thing, too.)

Me and my wife enjoyed our first trip to Gunnison Beach this year yesterday. Friendly people, good music, big blue umbrella set up as a windscreen so a couple could have sex blocking everyone else's view of the water... Y'know regular Gunnison stuff.

Tell ya what: I'd rather have couples having sex on the beach than to continually deal with the losers who live to go there just to gawk... At least the people who are having sex have a life of their own, and are not there to parasitize the rest of us.

We go several times each summer weekdays and weekends. We have never run into any gawkers or single males invading our space. We find the single males in the couples area keep their distance and keep to themselves. It is always a pleasant and serene experience. The only annoyance is those stupid windscreens. Find a nice spot, enjoy the wonderful view of the ocean and it isn't long before some clueless idiots set up their windscreen directly in front of you so that your view is now the back of their windscreen.

There could be no wind blowing and some people will still slavishly put up windscreens... but otherwise Gunnison is the greatest!

These posts bring up a very good debate. Which is more annoying; windscreens or gawkers? Of course, doubly annoying would gawkers with windscreens. lol I, for one, have honestly had my fill of both. The only thing worse than sitting there watching some fat, old idiot gawking at (or worse, hitting on) a solo or group of young ladies is some insensitive a**hole come plodding along after I've been there for a few hours, and start pounding his windscreen stakes into the ground right in front of me. Where is it written that you have the right to set up a wall on any beach, much less one during a hot summer day? I still have yet to see one at any other beach along the entire Jersey shore. Its like they are saying, I'm here, but don't come near me. After what we went thru this past fall with Sandy, cant we all just appreciate the fact that we have a beach at all. My fuse grows shorter every summer, and I'm close to taking a sharp object and shredding these things to threads. Then, maybe the rangers will start doing something. I seem to recall reading that screens and tents could only be set up to a certain point on the beach. If this rule is still on the books, lets start pushing to have it enforced. And, don't tell me you need privacy. Cant have that on a public beach, nude or not.

Barenjguy33 we have had this happen to us almost every trip to the beach. No wonder they spend a half hour pounding stakes, the area they claim with their endless windscreen is about triple the space they really need. Hanky panky has no place on this beach and thats a good reason to do away with wind screens which allow for unwelcome behavior.

Folks I was at the beach on Friday and Saturday and I guess I should pass along this bit of unfortunate information. On both days the restrooms were locked and the dreaded temporary facilities were in use. About 6 of them positioned along the street at the entrance. I heard a rumor that something went wrong with the plumbing - I know nothing more. So if you are planning a visit soon and this concerns you, you might want to call ahead and ask and hopefully the visitors center can tell you. Based on my experiences of the weekend I would offer this additional advice - you might want to consider bringing along a good supply of wet ones and some disposable plastic gloves. And if you are an early bird like me, don't come assuming that you will find clean potties first thing in the morning. I guess they get cleaned when the truck arrives. In any case I'm thankful that we even have a beach to go to. They did a great job just making it possible to come and use the beach.
