Hi fullymooned, re: your posts back in June, if you are still watching the board I wanted to tell you that I also wrote to Friends of Gunnison and never got a reply back. I wrote for pretty much the same reason - first started going to Gunnison last summer and even this year I still have no one to be with. But I live over 100 miles away and my guess is that maybe they have no interest in people who aren't local. I get the impression that Friends of Gunnison might be like a big clique that's hard to get into, and I believe the Philly nudes group disolved. I hope you have found some friends. If not, I'll be going to Gunnison a lot more this summer and if you are still looking for people you can be comfortable with there, I'd like to talk with you. I became comfortable with being nude in the presence of others, but there was a first time for me and I remember how I felt that day. Would really like to meet some friends there!

This is to address a couple of Schroder's concerns.
I have the same impression of Friends of Gunnison. I once inquired of their membership, and I found out that they regulate their membership to be approximately equal male-female (read, single males need not apply). Philly nudes is your best bet. I have applied to Philly nudes. I understand why you might believe that they disolved. Some time ago, their founder disappeared, but she has since been found (that's all that I know). I myself am awaiting emails from them as to what's cooking. Recently they tried to to have a get together at somebody's home. Cheef hopes to set up some get togethers this fall.
Naturally, Lester

I got there at about 9:15 after leaving at 6:15. Took a little long because I accidentally took the express route on the Parkway instead of the local, and turned around twice on 36 because I felt I missed the turn at some point.
But I make the left on 36 and these beach houses are gorgeous. Probably expensive as hell and worth more than my life, but they are gorgeous.
I finally get to the beach, and there's not even a dozen cars there by 9-9:15. It's a bit of a walk to the beach itself, but nothing terrible.
Early on my umbrella flew off and all the way down into the ocean. An older man helped me find it and properly secure it into the sand, and it didn't move from then on (thanks again!). I need to make sure I bring a rubber mallet next time.
I think I had a couple stares come my way because I was somewhat pale, and very young compared to the rest of the folks there, who were mostly older men or older couples between 40-70, lots of whom were very tan. I guess it's because they think most young people who go to nude beaches have only one thing on their mind.
But overall the experience was very different and liberating. The beach is very clean and quiet, not like what I've experienced in Atlantic City, and you have a great view of the NY skyline. I felt even more comfortable walking around nude than I did in clothes. I guess it's because I felt like I had nothing to hide or be ashamed of. Plus, unlike other beaches, covering up seemed more sexual than not covering up at all, because that's when the imagination kicks in, and then it becomes sexual.
And there really was no arousal issues. It truly is only about the mind. Seeing people nude in non-sexual acts really doesn't cause erections, and that's saying a lot for me since the young adult years are all about trying to hide one in public. xx(]
I mostly kept quiet and too myself for a first time, but I think this is something I can grow into and become more socialable with. It's a good feeling when you can lie down on the beach and rest, then wake up, realize your nude, but don't have to worry about it at all, and just go about your business.
I was able to talk to some people closer to my age (early-mid 20's) a little before I left, and it really is a good feeling to talk to people and completely ignore the taboo elephant in the room.
I did get burned, but the aloe vera lotion soothed it down really quickly, and I can't believe how tan my body got. I look so much healthier now. My only question left is what kind of SPF to use? I used 15, but still got burnt, and someone suggested 50, but I'm not sure if I'll still tan under that.
I'm definitely planning on going back again this summer, and maybe even a third time. I'll probably stay late into the afternoon next time since I won't have a concert to attend again.

Galgawker - IMHO - The ugliest thing at Gunnison Beach are the gawkers - sometimes personalities can be much more "uglifying" than any body... Pregnant women in particular are beautiful - please - do yourself and others a favor - buy some porn and stay home -

I did email the FOG a couple times but never received any response. I also looked into other clubs or groups and didnt find anything. Personally I feel that going to Gunnison all by myself would not be fun and I dont really have any friends that seem interested in tagging along with me to a nude beach. So I am looking for some company to have at the beach rather than be by myself. Are you planning to go there anytime soon ? Where are you located. Am in South NJ

HJ, when I was going to Gunnison 20yrs ago, I found it difficult to approach anyone and converse. People stuck to the people they knew. Maybe it's an east coast thing. Here in the Midwest, people have been slightly friendler, and a little creepier too.--GBA

Be careful. You might find your camera tossed into the ocean or smashed. Granted you're in the public domain, but people tend to get upset when their photos are taken. If you're in this forum looking for anything other than what nudists are, you're in the wrong place and might be more comfortable somewhere else. Cheri

Hi fullymooned, I tried to send you an Email but couldn't. Seems you have to make a certain number of postings before it lets you send Email to someone. I put my Yahoo Messenger id. in my profile in case you happen to use Yahoo. If not, then just let me know and I'll find a way to give you my Email address.
I'm in southeast Pa. and actually was planning to go to Gunnison this coming Saturday, but it's starting to look iffy. If I'm not able to go this weekend, then my next possible date would be Sat. Aug. 4. I try for weekend days, but usually not two weekends in a row. I also have Wednesdays off in August, they are possible days to go. And I like to watch the weather reports and try to pick good days since I have to drive so far. What does your schedule look like? I'm pretty flexible and would try to work out something that would fit with yours. Thanks.

What is the best place to go on Gunnison? I was there this morning around 7:45, i could only be here for a short while before work so i put my towel down near the 2nd lifegaurd chair, by a closed (snack shop?) i came too, from the north. Is this a good area, i see people were south of me and some set up near the dunes. Just wondering where a single guy should relax?

You were in a good place for a single guy. In general the most desirable area is between the lifeguard towers. Either that or between the first lifeguard and the clothed area. These areas are where the regulars go.
As for the near the dunes, that is for those who prefer to be in an isolated area, but it is a long ways from the ocean.
Avoid the south end of the beach, because they would think that you are gay. The gay guys hang out around the south side.
I myself was at Gunnison on August 1 from 11:30 to 2:30. If only you hadn't left early, we could have met.
Naturally, Lester

Chalk one up for the good guys. Was at the beach today, and we actually had a gawker removed. He was taking pictures(with a zoom lense no less) and tried to deny it. Once the gentlemen who approached him about taking pics of his wife, asked a lifeguard to call the rangers, the guy grabbed all his stuff and ran back to the parking area, with a lifeguard on a quad chasing him. He never made it past the bathrooms, and was brought back to be identified. Not sure if he was just told to leave, or if any type of charges were filed, but it does show that when you handle these guys the right way, they show their true character, and run like their hair was on fire. Plenty of the other kind of gawkers, unfortunately. The guys that show up with coolers, clothes and bulging eyes. One day we will be able to rid ourselves of them, as well. Is it me, or is there a new type of gawker. I noticed four or fives couples, male and female, walking around fully clothed. Not in bathing suits, or any other type of beach attire. I mean jeans, t-shirts, things like that. Not sure why, with the heat today, you would want to have anything on. Like to hear if anyone else has noticed it. Get nude and enjoy, BareNJ
