Fishman and Diger: Both great ideas!! It sounds if some of these people are confronted, it might serve as a great deterrent.

Looking forward to a few more good weekends!

The wind screens are not so bad as long as they are used as a border and kept lower to the ground. They really do wreck the whole atmosphere. I have never seen windscreens on the clothed beach.
I think, your best line of defense is to get in with a larger group of friends and to not give a crap who is watching you. Carefree life, the naturist life is more about being free than it is about being naked. Are you truly free or are you imprisoned by these jerks behind your windscreen. In some respects they are little terrorists. They win only if you let them.
I had another thought, stick this sign on your wind screen "we only laugh at you if your still wearing a suit" Or have this sign ready to go in case of some jerk "hey jerk, what are you looking at?" that way you don't have to even talk to him. Man, that would be funny.

If you ever catch him taking pictures of you, tell the life guard he was taking pictures of children. That will get him escorted away.

I guess I've said too much
Sean

Hey Gang, make sure you check the NPS website to see if Sandy Hook will be open by Monday morning. I have reports that there are power outages in Atlantic Highlands and power lines down on Sandy Hook, as well as Route 36 being closed for flooding south of the Hook. Guess Irene wasn't into public nudity. LOL

We'll be there friday and saturday with some friends. I would hope they won't have a problem getting ready for the holiday weekend.

Sandy Hook is closed today, Monday Aug. 29, because of damages sustained from Hurrican Irene. No word on what the damages are, or how long it will take to repair them. I do know alot of beach erosion occured, and would imagine a good number of trees were blown over. That whole area had bad flooding and power outages on Sunday, so might be a few days til everything is back to normal. Lets keep our fingers crossed that it will all be ready for the weekend.

Bad news, everyone. Sandy Hook will remain closed until power can be restored. They are hoping to have it back on no later than Sept. 4. Now, thats a knife to the heart for the last weekend of the summer. :(

Went down on Wednesday of last week for a few days. When I saw the NPS crew pulling up the Mobi-Mat at the entrance to the beach on Thursday,I had to ask them why,and they said that they expected the storm surge to reach the bathroom area.(Hmmmmm...)

Woke up at the Red Roof on Friday morning, and ran into the owner of the place. He "informed" me that no local beaches were open, the evacuation was in full-swing,and non-residents were personae-non-grata on the Jersey Shore.I kinda-sorta bought his misinformation, but decided to make a call...And when I finally got through to Sandy Hook, the guy said to come on down,we're open all day.(In fact,ALL the local beaches were open.)

And what a gorgeous day it was.Had a lovely time.(Even the "Hedo Reunion" crew was tolerable, but those folks are getting too old to be very rowdy anymore!)Got out of there that night without any unusual delays;just typical summertime-Friday-night traffic heading north on the Parkway.

Was thinking about going back this week, but as was mentioned above, the NPS is saying Sept. 4th,and I can't get out of Upstate NY anyway...Irene was as bad here as it was anywhere, and the Thruway is still closed over a 100+ mile span.

A little later in September is my new target date.If anyone gets there anytime soon,I'd be very interested to hear how the place fared.

Fishman, I have seen pics of Gunnison. As of this morning, it is the only beach closed on Sandy Hook. The water reached the boardwalk and has not receded yet. It is just one giant puddle and no way around it to get to the beach. Hopefully, the sunny days, and breeze, will help dry everything up. Power and phones are back on, so the park is open. Of course, the weekend forecast isn't anything to smile about.

A few years ago the area flooded and we were able to walk into Gunnison along the shore from North beach. Is that possible now?

Unfortunately, no. Everything north of Gunnison is closed because of flooding. And, so you all know, the water that has pooled on the beach is more like a lake. It is from the rain and the tide coming that high. There is a strip of beach by the shore line, just no way yo get to it. The report from NPS states an area of 28 acres has been covered by water on Gunnison alone. Absoultely no way to get around from parking lot G. You might be able to access it from the fishing beach, if they are lettng any one up by Gunnison. My guess is, closed means closed, so no life guards, and no people allowed. Just keep hoping the sun stays out to help evaporate the water, and dry off the sand.

I heard on the radio that as long as there is no power on the hook, they will not open. The earliest estimate is Sept. 4

According to the NPS site, every Sandy Hook beach except Gunnison is open now(11:30AM Friday), including North Beach.

It's a short walk to Gunnison from there, but you might incur the wrath of the Rangers...

I called the 24 hour Ranger station, listed on the NPS Sandy Hook website, 732-872-5900. The lady who answered said they had no idea when Gunnison would reopen.
