It's probably more accurate to say that "open sexual activity" has no place at a nudist venue rather than "sex" in general having no place. Because sex in SMALL WAYS, in the form of occasional (and polite) admiring glances, occasional playful banter, and all the other mild sexual undercurrents that are often present whenever humans interact, will usually be part of the mix at nudist clubs and resorts, too, especially at adult events like dances, evening poolside parties, etc. And, in moderation, such a flavor can be fun. However, if it's a mainstream nudist venue, such things will be just that: mild and occasional. But beyond that, Cheri's right... out-and-out sex isn't what nudist clubs are really about at all.

That is a great question.
Cheri said it well with "It's about enjoying the sensuality of the wind, air, water on me w/o tight constricting clothings." Like Cheri, I am a Phi Nu.
If it hadn't have been for sex, none of us would exist. Abuse of sex is what is sin. Certainly sex has no place at naturist gatherings.
I am in much agreement with what has been said so far on the topic. This goes to show that naturists have much in common and are in kindred spirits. Another great thing about naturism is that it is an equalizer, in that occupations don't matter (a ditch digger is equal to a lawyer).
Naturally, Lester

Because I am fascinated by the topic I have given a lot of thought to why we all find so much enjoyment from engaging in ordinary activities, often with like-minded people, while not wearing clothing. I was unable to come up with an adequate explanation on my own, so I perused many of the topics I found here on this forum, and read hundreds, if not thousands, of posts to discover what others thought.
Aside from the obvious issue of physical comfort, which is no small part of it, there is definitely a psychological aspect that is difficult to describe. We feel a euphoria when we are nude. For us, being nude alters our state of mind. I wonder if our brains are wired differently from others?
It seems to me that this must be an emotional reaction we experience to the act of discarding our clothing. If our emotional reactions are voluntary, as I believe they are, then the euphoria we feel is our own creation and could be duplicated under other circumstances. But why can't I make myself feel as good when I'm clothed as I do when I'm nude?

So well put Bill. Today, after washing and polishing my dear wife's car I just wanted to relax. Our back garden is now quite secluded and ideal for nudist sunbathing. Having shed my clothes, I felt an inner peace that I can only experience wihtout being encumbered with clothing. I could totally withdraw from the stresses and strains of life and enjoy a peaceful time.

There is a physical component. A naked person sheds ten times less skin than a surgeon in scrubs, and what we shed has far fewer bacteria. Our nerves may be picking up a very, very low level pain from bacterial action on our skin. In addition, our nerves may be experiencing a deadening from a textile monoclimate that we put our skin in. Release, our skin can sense much more difference.

For me nudism is definately not about sex. It's how our culture links nudity and sex that leads people to believe it's all about sex.
Now, it's not that nudist don't have sexual thoughts, because if we are all honest we most certainly do. But, that doesn't mean that's all we think about while we are naked. Having a sexual thought doesn't mean you intend on acting on it. Sexual thoughts are just part of being human.
If nudist resorts were created for swingers and wife swappers, I am sure the press would have "exposed" that years ago. Since there are no stories of this nature I think it's safe to assume nudist resorts and nudism is what nudist say it is... The best most natural way to relax.

Nudism is not about sex but it certainly is about the enjoyment we experience when we see others nude. It is about the sensual nature of nature and out being a part of it. Some archaeologists have suggested that man lived for 100,000 years before he put on clothes. When he/she did it was not for the utilitarian aspects but it was to demonstrate the wealth of the few that could afford clothes. Man is in-separately a part of nature and as much as we try to distance ourselves, those of us that have the pleasure to experience nudism find our DNA is linked with nature in ways we don't understand. Nudism brings enjoyment because conversation is easier and more enjoyable. We want to connect with others while nude. Haven't we all just wanted to scream out. "I AM NUDE AND I AM LOVING THIS!"

For me, nudism encompasses many things but it comes down to personal freedom, comfort, and relaxation. Since I began my journey into nudism, my attitudes about the body, sex, nudity, acceptance of others, and life in general have become more positive and healthier. I find that when I spend time nude, especially in the company of other nudists, I throw off the arbitrary and senseless restrictions that society at large tries to cast upon me. The feeling of being nude is liberating and a powerful expression of personal freedom.

There is a difference in nudism or naturalism and pornography. Nudism believes in the freedom from the restrictions of clothing, Porn is for sexual gratification.

If young children prefer to be nude while playing, it's simply an innocent preference, and scarcely sexual. That we naturists/nudists prefer nudity in our everyday ectivities, alone or with others, it does not need to be sexual. Most of the time it isn't that way with a nudist. A few lucky even earning a salary in the nude, such as in telecommuting, or at a nudist resort. Of course, one application of nudity can be sexual, but with me, feeling sexual urges occurs with or without clothes on.

Having never been to a nudist club I find this forum interesting. I simply long for friends that I can be competely honest with. I have hoped that nudist would be folks that would be more open and honest. It seems that in reading all the post this could be a reality. I don't expect everyone that I meet to be my best friend but I hope that I will find like minded people that I can relate to in a manner that will allow for true friendship. God made man to relate with each other in a manner that we can enrich each others lives and help each other. Society has failed in this. The christian church (of which I am a part) does a great job but so many are (I believe) are afraid to be completely open with each other. Maybe a fear of judgement (okay me). I have been a minister in the past and dealt with many issues many of which some were negative but most very positive. Still I do now that God is positive and so is His Word. As humans and christians we all need to learn simply that God wants each of us to Love each other. The second greatest commandment. Love must lend it's self to openness. As the only way we can help others is for them to open up to us and allow us in to give the help needed.
So I guess I see nudism as a group of people that get together for form friendships that are open and positive. Because if we can be nude in front of each other why hide anything else?

Jnew,
I'm glad to hear that it has been a positive experience so far for you. You've come to the right place here. We have among our ranks in this forum a lot of good, honest, real people. That can't be said of some of the other sites and forums.
Welcome & God bless.

Anyone who thinks that nudism has anything to do with sex has never been to a sanctioned nudist venue. Social nudism is less about sex than a clothed group of people who wear "sexy" clothes.

Amen Katy,
Anyone that hasn't been to a social nudist venue thinks it will be erotic; I did before our first time to Apollo beach. I was surprised at how nonsexual it was, if you have never experienced the freedom, you will not understand.

I look forward to my first visit. From all the postings on this forum I think that my visit should be very good. I hope I can get my wife to read all the postings because I think they could go a long way in helping her see that nudism is nonsuxual. Thanks to all for your positive postings.
