We spent our honeymoon this past week in and around the area of Ridgeway, Colorado. We stayed at the WONDERFUL Chipeta Lodge and Spa in Ridgeway. Although we had our own private hot tub, inside our room and on our private deck, we still could not resist going to the Orvis Hot Springs a total of 3 times while on our 4 day trip. Nothing like a natural hot springs! Our hotel included 2 day passes as a part of our vacation package from Chipeta. Neither my wife or I had never been to a clothing optional establishment before. Our first visit was during the day on Friday March, 14th. This being our first time, we chose to enter the grounds and pools with our bathing suits on. There were probably around 30-40 soakers there during this visit, which we stayed for about 2 hours. The majority of soakers were nude. It was mostly couples and single men who were there. I'm guessing not a whole lot of single women make this journey alone. We came back later, after dark on the 14th, this time going nude.... and we loved it!! It was funny, because when we wore our suits the first time, I kinda felt awkward for NOT being naked! I actually felt more comfortable being naked than suited up. Our third visit there was on Saturday night, the 15th. Again we went nude. At this point I was even comfortable walking the grounds without any cover-up. Most people when walking from pond to pond usually had a towel or robe, but this was probably due to the fact that the air temps were in the mid-30's. We even has some snowfall on our Friday night visit. Saturday night the skies were pretty clear, and it was awesome soaking in the tub, my wife by my side looking at the stars. There is very, very little light on the grounds. Just enough to find your way around the paths. But at night, you couldn't even tell if people were nude unless they walked by you real close. The darkness and all the steam make it a very cozy place. And even if others are in the pool with you, you still feel very private as almost everyone would find there own little spot in the pool, and almost everyone kept their voices low. We had read on some sites that "hippie types" are pretty common around here. I have to say that during our three visits, it really did not seem that way. Although, we were both surprised how many men, and women do not keep trim or shaved ("down there"). We both made it a point before we left for our vacation to make sure we were neat and clean down there. Not that there is anything wrong with that (no trimming or shaving) but we were both expecting that more people would be trimmed. Being cigarette smokers, we spent the large majority of our time there in the smokers pond, which again, we were surprised that we often had the pool to ourselves most of the time. Not only for the fact this was the only smoking area on the property, but it was our favorite pool temperature wise. The large pond wasn't hot enough, then two of the other smaller pools were either too hot (Lobster Pot) or the Island Pond, which in my opinion was just warm. We didn't get into the indoor, clothing required pool, nor the private tub. We only have 3 (very minor) negative things to say about Orvis. First off, we did notice one man, kinda homeless looking, walk right from the lobby, in his very dirty clothes, strip down right next to the pond, and get in. I do feel guests should be required to at least shower (they do suggest it, but do not enforce it). Second, the changing room/shower room are kinda small. Not a big deal though. I realize it's an older building, and space is limited. Third, as many have found I am sure, but some couples who are soaking like to make it a point in their conversations that they are "swingers." Although nobody made any sort of direct advances, there were 2 sets of couples who let it be known they share other peoples spouses. But, other than that, everybody was very friendly. I

Orvis was my wife & my first experience with clothing-optional, about 5 years ago, & we echo your enthusiasm for their facilities. We were there mid-week in summer, & we practically had the place to ourself. Chipeta Lodge is equally wonderful, and will be worth a return trip for us. Since our first nude experience, we've traveled to several resorts, & enjoyed nudism in our home. Like you said, we wish we lived closer to Orvis.
