Hi NudeAl,
I live near Spokane, and do a lot of nude hiking outdoors, especially in south Spokane county on the Rails to Trails paths. I'm looking for places north of Spokane.
Some locals are starting a "Meetup" group for outdoor nude hiking and bicycling near Spokane. http://www.meetup.com/Nude-Is-Natural-in-Spokane/
The law in WA says you have to intend to offend or affront someone. Just being naked is not illegal without intention. And being naked in a WA state park is a civil offense but "not a crime." Like a parking ticket, and only if a police comes out to the trail. Of course the police rule by harassment and fear, not by law, so they can still harass you if they get off their butts and off the road, not likely.
Check out the Meetup. Or send me some mail and perhaps we can chat about eastern WA naked hikes. Bob

My girfriend and i love nude hiking. We dont ever get to unless we go to a nude campground or resort. That would be awesome to be able to hike an bike nude closer to home an not have to worry about someone being offended or arrested..

nudist camp are great for hiking and biking if they have trails and you offend no one or get arrested, one camp i belonged to had a mile long trail that went up side of a hill but also had a creek and a bridge great place to escape to. the places i hike now i always have to be cautious - wouldn't it be great if mere nudity wasn't illegal.

I think that being in a group and/or having a woman with you helps. Something about the lone naked male seems to make people uneasy. Not saying that's right or wrong; just a fact of life. If you do have to hike alone, always look people in the eye and give them a BIG smile ;-).
You may be right, nudesunguy, about cultural prejudice against men making it easier to accept naked women. Its a shame that misandry is so prevalent.
Your story does remind me of one time I was hiking naked with my two teenage sons. As we rounded a bend in the trail we passed a woman sitting on a rock beside the trail. "I wish I could do that" was her comment. I stopped to chat briefly, and she applauded my nudity. One other time I was hiking a different trail by myself when 3 women came from the other direction. The 3 of them all veered off the trail about 20 yards to keep a distance from a naked man. Misandry and fear of men is far too commonly taught to women.

Time to being an old thread back to life! Being winter time and a little on the cool side, it is time to spend time looking back through old posting. Like others here I like nude hiking and attempt to hit the trails as often as I can. While we have some good hiking trails in some places, those generally have lots of traffic on them. I choose high country trails and hike mid week. Less chance of meeting people on the trails. I also choose to hike trails that do not have a lot of brush around them. The more open the better. Two reasons for the open trails, one I can see if there are other people around, but the most important for me is to give me more room in case I encounter one of the many bears we have. Yes I do hike with a hand gun, but being nude, it is not always easy to get at. Not many places to attach a hand gun to the body! I mainly hike alone whic can be an issue at times. Just waiting for spring time when I can hit the trails again.

I hike with a handgun as well. I slide it into a hydro pack so no one can see it. Gun laws in Canada are different than the US, but the bears are the same.

I understand about the laws in Canada. We travel from our home in Alaska through Canada to the lower 48 for vacations and attempt to stay current with their laws. I have my hand attached to the outside of my day pack, when hiking, which means that I have to remove my pack to access it.

Love hiking and love it even more when I/we can do it naked. I don't own a hand gun and the rifle I own will only piss off the large wild animal that may attack. It is my intention to purchase a hand gun ONLY for protection purposes while traveling to very remote areas with my grandsons and my wife. I am not a pro gun person but I'm not naïve that you don't need protection or a deterrent for bad people in places where law enforcement is quite a ways away.
There is a place nearby that many people visit to hike. A good friend has told me that if I get away from the area where the schools take all the kids for a field trip, I could hike nude very easily and not encounter anyone else on many of the trails leading out of that area. I asked about wildlife. He said ... "just be careful of mountain lion." Hmmmm ... I may just stick to some more established trails and hike with a group!
I've not received any negative feedback from those I've encountered while naked hiking. Twice on trips to Death Valley in the last 11 years, I've encountered a Ranger ... one male, one female. Surprisingly, the female ranger was actually more friendly and accepting of me being naked and spoke to me quite a bit. The male ranger seemed more put off by my nudity and just kept saying that "I should be aware that there are others out here that may not appreciate my nudity." I asked if it was illegal and he stated it was not illegal but use good judgment. I ignored his ignorance!
The female ranger talked to me about places to hike to, places to camp and what to watch out for. She did say that it was best to hike and travel the canyons with others but understood wanting some alone time. She was quite nice and very accepting.
Loves being naked. Plays well with others!

FireProf, I fully understand your feeling/position on firearms while hiking. As a firearms instructor I get to talk to people from all points of view. While I am comfortable with fire arms, there are lots of people that are not. I am not slamming them at all. Just those of us that hike either nude or clothed, armed or not, need to be aware of our surroundings and be prepared for the 'just in case'! I just like to be out hiking in the back country and just would like to see more people along on these trips! Some of the trips I took this last summer were good sunny days and others were cool/rainy. Nice thing about hiking nude, one does not have to worry about getting their cloths wet. We dry off quickly! Some day I will figure out how to post pictures of the country up here that I hike in!

I have two textile friends/previous co workers that I go out to Death Valley with. They both have several guns and usually pack one hand gun in their backpack when we go 4x4ing or hiking. Though they wouldn't mind, I'm usually dressed because my nudity does make them uncomfortable even though they say it's okay.
When they are packing ... I'm glad I don't have to. Both of these guys have taken classes on gun safety, gun maintenance and I feel very safe around them when they have a gun out. If and when I buy a hand gun, the first thing I will do is take gun safety classes and probably take my son in laws and oldest grandson with me/us.
Are there classes that need to be taken on an annual basis to stay current with any certifications?

Bob Knows, I grew up in Spokane, a few blocks down from Shadle Center if you're familiar with that part of town. I still have family there so I visit a few times a year.
Oops, I just noticed Bob last posted a few years ago. Well Bob, if you're still here, Spokane is a nice place!

I do a lot of hiking in the summer, but I have to wear shorts on this particular trail due to all the other hikers. Next summer though, I'm planning on visiting a nude resort for the first time. I'm not sure what I'm looking forward to the most about that trip, there's just too many things to list here, but hiking naked all evening is definitely at the top of my to-do list while I'm there. I envy those of you who have gotten to enjoy that kind of uninhibited freedom, it has to be an amazing thing to experience.

FireProf: California has some wonderful, unique laws regarding BLM land. Nudity is actually legal on BLM land that is not designated as special recreational use, I.E.: quad 4x4 areas. Other than that freehike to your hearts content and any ranger giving you a hard time is simply just WRONG. Interestingly, other states don't have the same allowances. Arizona does have some recreational land just out of the Tucson area that is designated for nude use but is under scrutiny and review at the moment. I'd love to get down there and do some desert hiking before the rules change.

Yes ... well aware of nudity on BLM land ... and I take advantage every chance I get! Death Valley is one place I take advantage each year on our trip.
Last year, we overnighted at Saline Valley Hot Springs and loved that 99% of those visiting were nude all over the complex. I even got my buddy to strip off and join all us nudies in the main pool.
I usually have to venture off by myself during the trip to get some naked time alone. Only wish a close friend of mine would make the trip out and join us. He and I could venture off and explore and I'd have a nude hiking buddy ... and protector! hahahaha He's a gun toting nudist!
