Ms. McGee, 51, a popular art teacher with 28 years in the classroom, is out of a job after leading her fifth-grade classes last April through the Dallas Museum of Art. One of her students saw nude art in the museum, and after the child’s parent complained, the teacher was suspended (http://www.nytimes.com/2006/09/30/education/30teacher.html?scp=10&sq=nude&st=cse).

What a sad society we live in, when prime time television is filled with graphic violence, murders, and autopsies which are considered good drama. Meanwhile, historical art is considered harmful and dirty. I hope she sues the a$$ off of this school, board members and administration.

Ridiculous. Might as well burn down that porn-shop Dallas Museum of Art. And the Louvre while you're at it. Or make the kids wear blindfolds on all their field trips. It's not as if today's fifth-graders didn't already know exactly what's under peoples' clothes.

I've heard stories of younger children seeing "worse" on a field trip to a farm and nobody got suspended or fired over that!

When I was a School Board Member and if we had done this to a teacher.........we would all have been RECALLED! and....we would have deserved it!

What has happened to us as a people? Why can't children view serious art that contains a nude figure. Better to see a nude that way maybe for the first time, than in a degrading porn site of magazine later on.

Why is it such a secret about what people really look like? Every other form of life is on display. Why is it that only people are judged to be obscene?

How about a male puppy seeing nude female dogs? Arrest all the naked female dogs?

Come to think of it, the school folks see the basics of life as obscene, I would think.

If a parent has a problem with their kid seeing someone naked in art, then I really feel sorry for the kid. Non-sexual nude poses makes some of the greatest art.

How can people develop wholesome clean thoughts about nudity when they are taught that immorality is ok?
People can only harvest from what is planted.

it amazes me you turn on the boob tube and see alot of trash from hollywood than you watch those entertainment shows that glorify hollywood stars and all the trash they are up to and people eat it up, than society is hung up on nude art and statues and want to cover it up. kinda like when a sexual predator gets slapped with probation by a liberal judge and the nudist who appears before the same judge is labeled a sex offender. what has happened to america, can we save it before its to late.

I don't understand this!

I am a school teacher and on a nudist holiday I met one of my pupils and her family and we got on great, ended up having drinks together...

It seems now that people complain BECAUSE THEY CAN, not because they actually feel something is wrong.

The teacher should be celebrated and admired for going the extra mile in educating his or her students.

We have such a stuck-up, puritanical, and hypocritical society in America that it is a wonder that we have even those freedoms that we still do enjoy. It is puzzling that this type of repressed attitude are so prevalent in the USA but not so in any of the Europen countries where I have experienced a clearly more enlightened acceptance of the human form.

It takes an ignorant school administration, parading as academics, to take away a teacher's job for doing exactly what a teacher ought to be doing. TEACHING!

This teacher's boss must be a sick, or mentally troubled person in some way, that needs some professional help. What this teacher did was perfectly appropriate in educating his or her students.

Heres how I would have handled it. Assume 30 students. 1 parent complains. IGNORE Complaint. Teacher still has JOB.

16 parents complain. Art gallery Field trips are OFF LIMITS at this School Board. Teacher Still has JOB.
