Its a real shame. My wife and I became nudists just 2 years ago and were really enjoying it. Now we realize that it will not be long before nudist resorts will be things of the past. All those people who worked hard over several generations to gain public and political support for the nudist life-style, are seeing their efforts destroyed in only a few months. The resorts, with their ads and "events" are making it very, very clear that they are all about the sex trade, the exploitation of men and women, and our nudity perversions. How does anyone defend "nudism" when the county commissioners are looking at the current event "ads?" Only a fool would believe we are about anything but sexual exploitation.

Remember, when societies are in economic turmoil they turn rapidly conservative. Just look at what happened to Europe over the weekend. I predict that in less than 3 years, those resorts who abandon AANR principles will be out of business.

Bare Warrior, Just learned yesterday that one in GA has turned to the "dark side." Happily Serendipity and Bell Acres remain nudist.

There are still many, many AANR clubs throughout the country that do not cater to swingers, and would eject anyone who tries to promote swinging within the club. That being said, do those clubs have swingers within their membership? Sure, they do! But they keep it private behind closed doors. I believe that the threat to nudism from swingers is being greatly exaggerated.

Also keep in mind that there are a number of us who may not be in the lifestyle, but may not want to deal with kids and would enjoy a more adult environment at times.

The only problem I see with what your are saying, jw1, is that there are many people/couples like you and they all have the same feelings about visiting clubs and want a more "adult" atmosphere.

But...they are visiting family clubs and don't want children around or want them in bed and outta site at a certain hour. Some of these clubs are inviting or enticing the swingers into "family clubs," and that's the rub with many non swinging nudists.

I had a person ask me some questions about - - - Resort in Palm Springs He didn't want to visit if there were swingers there. I answered his question with..."it's returned to a family naturist resort and that type of activity is not tolerated." He then asked..."are there kids there, we don't want to be around kids." "It's a family naturist resort!"

The only place to go, for what he was looking for, was the Terra Cotta Inn but...he didn't like TCI so...he complained that there wasn't any adults only clubs, resorts that didn't allow kids and swingers!

I can understand the hesitation and not wanting to be around a bunch of screaming, yelling and hollering kids but...we were all once young and doing the same thing. In my opinion, I'd rather deal with the kids than have to deal with swingers.

To each his own...I would rather deal with lifestylers than kids...usually with lifestylers a polite "thanks, but no thanks" takes care of things.

Just to be clear, I am not advocating openly sexual behavior where it is not welcome. In all cases, house rules should be respected by all visitors.

It would be sad if everyone had the attitude of not wanting kids around, the kids will be adults one day and hopefully nudists, maybe the best place for people who do not like kids around is to stay at home?

Most of you missed the point. It will not be long before some incident occurs with the swingers, and then non-nudists will equate nudism with swinging, which is not main stream, mid-stream, etc. and then we all loose the right to be nude, even in a private session. Certainly the beaches will go, because nudist will be equated with swinging. It doesn't matter what the truth is, its what people will perceive.

We're idiots if we think that any association witht the swinger life-style will be beneficial. And the resorts are very short sighted.

Anent Bare Warrior's point, the nudist community needs to educate the public on the differences between the clear difference between the family-oriented resorts versus the swinger-oriented places.

Put yourself in the average person's head - people being nude means sexuality. So, when sexually negative newsworthy events happen at a swinger resort, the traditional, family-oriented resorts automatically get thrown into the mix.

One reason I like family nudist resorts is the lack of sexual intent. We are expected to maintain our politeness, consideration, self-control, and self-restraint.

The unfairness of people associating nudity with swinging is that people in the outside world are just as sexual as the nudist world. Further, people in the textile world seem to have more problems with sexuality then people at a family nudist resort.

Misconceptions run rampant, and we are vulnerable to them. As such, we need to be on the "offense" as it were, to project to the public, the correct idea of who family nudists really are.

My wife and I feel the same. We would never go to a club or resort out of fear of this - real or misconception. This why we appreciate the c/o beach model. Yes, you still have the gawkers and other idiots. but you can find your place and enjoy the time in the nude.

Yes, more education is needed. But again, we'd rather stay to ourselves at the beach.

This is why it is important to support AANR and TNS they represent true nudist/naturist values and are our voice. If you are a nudist/naturist you need to become a member of one or both of these fine organizations as they have done a tremendous job preserving our way of life in spite of numerous attempts to stamp it out. These clubs who give in to the swinger element may regret that decision one day as they then fall beyond the pale and are thus outside of the protections of these national organizations.

We'd be very interested in knowing what verifiable information that Teva has that Paradise Valley has "turned to the dark side." We're occasional visitors there and haven't seen any any evidence that it has become a swingers club. The new owners have promised to maintain their AANR status. Could she please post her evidence or let us know if it is just gossip.

We are considering buying a membership at PVR but will certainly reconsider if it has, in fact, become a sex club.

I am a nudist, and my wife and I are both swingers (she isn't a nudist). We can seperate the lifestyles, and do so. When we have kids, we will probably do less swinging, and more family nudist activities.

Swingers, are like nudists in many ways. The goal is just different. And those swingers who don't obey the house rules (as well as general Lifestyle Rules), get outted real quick, and never invited back!

There are bad apples in EVERY lifestyle!

Clothing should always be optional!

I still have trouble with the idea of nudity as a "lifestyle". Nudity is just a state of being, swinging is an activity. Saying "I am a nudist and a swinger" is like saying "I am a nudist and a golfer", Both golfing and swinging are out of place at a shopping mall or public swimming pool. Activities have their place. Activities however can be done nude or clothed. There is a simple social problem that nudity and sexual activity get equated -- in the sense that the former is seen necessarily to lead to the latter -- so that laws get written in confused ways. Naturists are trying to break that association so that activities are regulated seperately from state of being. Associating non-sexual activities with being nude contributes to that goal. Associating sexual activities with social nudity adds to the confusion. People just have to be confident that swimming nude doesn't lead to sex any more than wearing plaid pants and spiked golf shoes necessarily leads to orgies in the clubhouse.
