hey everyone, just wondering what most people use on their entire body for protection from the sun. everyone uses some sunscreen but when it comes to covering it all, do you do anything different. the sun is definitely different now than it was years ago.

Im sure I will be "yelled at" but having very dark skin myself as well as my husband use oil when in the sun. Just turned 50, and my skin is smooth, tan and healthy. Lucky enough to not burn, been that way all my life.

Like Jenn, I was a sun tan oil user for many, many years. Since my wife has had some skin cancers removed, she needs to limit her sun exposure so she's usually under an umbrella or tree. To get sun...I usually have to sit too far away from her so I don't get as much sun as I used to. Luckily I was born with a nice tan!
Nowadays I will use Banana Boat SPF 15 and SPF 30 on my face. I do revert back to oil once in a while but not that often.

I also use a tanning lotion called "Maui Babe". It smells like coffee. Hard to find, you have to order it online

At least SPF 45, broad spectrum, photo stable with a higher SPF if available. The burning sting of liquid nitrogen is not enjoyable.

A spray-on for the thin air at my favorite nude beach at Lake Tahoe (6200 feet in elevation) is WD-40, but if that is not available, a spray-on rating of SPF 65 lotion does the trick. Come to think of it, the latter does a far better job; the former is pretty slick, though.

Hi:
The weather here in the Northeast you do not need sunscreen. We have not seen the sun all week with the exception of yesterday.
Thank god we had our cookout yesterday, since today is a comp. rainout!!!
Even yesterday the sun was not the strong, but we all had a good time around the pool and everyone said the food was good.
It was good to see old friends!!
Remember, we are only here for a short time, let's have a good time.

Acmeweld is on the right track, especially when he mentions the magic words "photo stable". There are several new formulations that have prolonged UVA protection. SPF refers only to UVB (sunburn) protection, and even a high-SPF product won't necessarily protect you from skin damage and skin cancer. See the Sunscreens 101 Forum for boring technical details if you've nothing better to do, but make sure to read the label of any sunscreen carefully before you buy it.

You mean you folks are not buying into my eccentric idea about WD-40? Okay, how about R2D2? STP? ESP? MP3?
Some people have too much common sense to buy into my mental musings.
I do like the spray on sunscreen since it reaches the hard to get places, like the middle of my back.

I am fair skinned so I have to use a fairly strong sunscreen, I learned this the hard way. I now use SPF 30 or higher, I prefer the brand NO-AD I also use a spray on with a minumum SPF of 30 for the hard to reach areas. I usually wear a broad brimmed hat as well to help keep the sun off my face. I rarely just lay out and tan now however in the past I have done that in vain attempt to darken my skin, not happening not with my genes. I can't stay out of the sun though I love being outdoors in it I just try to be smart and apply the sunscreen well ahead of time and reapply often.

Just make sure the expiration date is still current. Right now I'm using an SFF 50 Sports spray on. Teva.
