Hi. I am new here as well as to nudism. I have never been to an area designated for nudists, but I want to give it a try this weekend. I live in Brooklyn, NY. Not a great location for the nudist lifestyle, so I did a bit of research and Lighthouse Beach (yeah, I know it's clothing-optional, but I'm not interested in wearing clothes. No point, y'know?) in Long Island seems like a good choice. I do not have a car though, and that potentially makes getting there more difficult.
What I have read says I need to take the LIRR to Bablyon and then take the S47 bus. That's the easy part. The bus stops in field 3 of Robert Moses State Park rather than the field 5 that people trying to get to Lighthouse Beach by car park at. I get that I still need to head east, but does being in field 3 extend my walk significantly? I am hoping it's still pretty straightforward, not that I have a terrible sense of direction (...probably).
I hear than sunburn can be a serious problem and it seems to be talked about relatively often, but I get this feeling that most nudists (at least the ones active here) are light-skinned and not dark-skinned (black, as far as my race goes) like me. The most experience I've had with sunscreen was quite a while back in summer day camp. It was just standard procedure to tell all campers to use some level of sunblock (don't know what SPF). Thinking back, I am really not sure if I need it. On the Von Luschan chromatic scale, I would say my skin ranges from 28-30. Just to be on the safe side, I went ahead and got a 6 oz bottle of Rx suncare SPF 50 sunblock for $9. Did I waste my money?
Of course, I suppose the need for sunblock has something to do with how hot it is outside and how long I plan on staying. Assuming 11702 is indeed Lighthouse Beach's zip code, this Sunday is currently projected to be a partly cloudy day with a high of 89 F. I think I would reach field 3 at 12:30 PM unless I can get out of here even earlier. Should I try to? If I got to the beach itself at ~1, it'll probably be as hot as it's going to get. I would probably stick around all day and leave on the 5:35 PM bus.
I am not even sure exactly what I am going to do. Just value the free feeling, I guess. My backpack would hold whatever I needed (towel, sunblock). Is there some kind of facility with lockers for your stuff (your clothes, etc)? I haven't been to a beach in years, so I don't even know what to expect anymore ._. .
Big post, kinda. I think those are all my concerns for now. In case some additional background info helps, I am a 20-year old black guy. I'm single and bisexual, but as far as "endgame" concerns go (seeking a relationship), I'd be considered heterosexual. Not my orientation matters at somewhere like Lighthouse Beach from what I've read. At this point, it seems very likely that I am headed there alone. There might be one friend I can convince to come. If I got that far, I get a strong feeling he'd keep his clothes on though.
Thanks in advance for any advice you guys can give me .

Getting to Lighthouse beach with out a car is tough. Its almost not worth taking public transportation, I have heard its much easier to get to gunnison Sandy hook using public transportation.

Yeah, it was a bit of a hassle, but I still felt it was worth it. You can read my trip report here. I will definitely look into Gunnison's Beach. Is there more you can tell me about getting there with public transportation? Otherwise, I suppose I will encounter some info about that in what seems to be the biggest topic for Gunnison's Beach.
