                      | Nudeisntlewd,
 It's pretty much dependent on the intensity of the sun. In Australia we have no ozone layer so they are pretty specific about what suncreen manufacturers can and can't claim about their product. During summer we get a lot of tourists who get severe burning because they aren't used to the intensity of our sun.

 Also the SPF is basically the number of minutes before you reapply. As an indication you multiply the number by 10 to get the number of minutes you can go before having to reapply. Of course this changes if you swim or have excessive sweating.

 Cheers,

                      | Thanks for the info Spontanudity, that sounds logical to me. I wonder if what I heard may have been based on how the SPF applies to my specific northern location. I'll have to remember that formula for re-application.

                      | nudeisntlewd;
 You can also go to your chemist (drugist in the USA), and he/she can recommend the SPF for you area and the type of skin you have.

                      | Strongest available, applied early and often. I think that's good advice you guys. I guess that's what I'll do. I know a lady who got skin cancer, and once a year she has to get an exam of every square inch of her body. I can do without that unless my girlfriend does it.

                      | Irishred,
 I'm also from up north... way way cold.... we don't get sunburn but we can easely get "Frostbite""" brrrrrrrrr..

 That's why during our winter, lost of us head south....

 Now we have to decide what we like best... I go for option "2".
