What do you think of Naturist Videos?

Are they an effective and necessary means of promoting naturism?

Are they merely excuse for perverts to get there thrills?

Are they an example of how commercialisation is taking over the core values of naturism?

Cheers,
Spontanudity

I have been told that a lot of non nudists rent/buy nudist videos, mainly for entertainment. A store owner that I talked to said they are some of the most active movers because they show nudity. If you will notice there are a lot of nudist sites that give virtual tours of their facilities and no nude pictures. I think there are a lot of people that are just looking for nudity, and it takes away from the real purpose of the videos.

I have not seen any naturist videos recently. Those I saw in the past (40 years ago) used models, not real naturists. Each one has to be looked at and appraised separately. Some may reflect the naturist experience, others may be porn in disguise. Like all movies distributed commercially, they are for making money. Regardless of intent, they tend to be looked at for more for thrills rather than for education. Very few of them, at least at that time, were made by or sanctioned by legitimate naturist organizations.

I think naturist videos can help someone who is thinking about trying nudism or wants to venture away from the house and give social nudism a try.

I purchased several videos. Mostly for my wife's benefit. We began venturing out into the social aspect of nudism and I wanted her to view some of the beaches, clubs and resorts.

I also purchased a video for first time nudists and one for women so my wife could watch and listen to other women and their stories of how they became nudist.

These videos were very helpful for me to get my wife to become a nudist.

I do agree with Kimberly that there is definately an element out there that will purchase or rent these just to see naked people.

I have seen several nudist videos and they were tastefully done. I think they portrayed nudism in a very positive manner, and both nudists, and people interested in becoming nudists would benefit from them. You are always going to have "gawkers" buy them, like your always going to have them at the beach.

For those interested in nudism, the vidoes will naturally be a help.

I agree with a number of the previous comments, that there will be some who purchase the video simply to look at nude people.

I've purchased a handful of videos over the years, most are Australian educational type, tho' I bought one in Cap d'agde as a souvenir and the other is an attempt at a naturist feature film called "Education Julie". For those you haven't seen it, its a movie about a college studying sociology. She is given an assignment about nudity in the 80's. She ends up going to a naturist resort and later attempts to get her partner involved. Its no Academy Award winner but at least its an attempt to promote naturism in a positive manner.

I think I have seen Educating Julie, and it was a good movie. We saw one that was similar, was filmed in Greece, but then had a sexual side to it, so I would not recommend it as a nudist video.

I saw "Educating Julie" a couple of years ago. It was good to the point, but IMHO, needs to be re-made. AANR publishes "Welcome to Our World"; TNS publishes "Body Positive". There are also other good videos that both national organizations produce. Episode 213 of Liars & Legends from Turner South Broadcasting has a good 10 minute segment on nudism as well.

I think genuine nudist videos can be a positive way to promote nudism,as can television documentaries on nudism.A few years back one of our local T.V. stations made a documentary entitled Nude Zealand and ran it on prime time T.V,8.30pm.It showed the nudists side of their past-time and nothing was censored, full frontal male and female nudity,as it was filmed in the clubs and nude beaches.Far from there being a load of complaints from the viewing public, people actually wrote in requesting it be shown again,so it was about 6 months later. The clubs also recieved a whole heap of enquiries about joining resulting in new members.I have also seen two other documentaries in a similar vein over here, one Australian one,"From Neck to Knee to Nude," tracing the evolution of swimwear, ending on a nude beach, and one British one "Full Frontal in Flip Flops ", which was very similar to Nude Zealand. All good stuff and in my opinion we need more of these doco's to put our side of the naturist story forward and get nudism more accepted by society.

Cheri,

I think you're totally right, "Educating Julie" needs to be re-made. Its a little amatur-ish. I've shown it to a number of friends, all have commented on how Julie manages to get nude very quickly on her first experience. Most women have commented that it just isn't that easy. May be a film producer may want to read up on Melissa's experiences???

Cheers,

Nudkiwi,

I've seen something similar in Australia. There made two programs about naturism in Australia. It aired on TV around 9:30 and showed various aspects of social nudity in Australia and around the world.

There was also another which showed the history of bathing suits in Australia. They begain at the full length suit on Bondi Beach and ended up at nude beach in Australia were the female host was in a bathing suit and stripped off naked and ran in to the sea.

Cheers,
Spontanudity

They would never show anything like that here on TV, at least public TV. Maybe a quick shot of back sides. It would be nice if the aired nudist videos here on TV, but i am sure they would sensor them.

It amazes that they hide the odd bare breast the shows up in reality programs will Survivor in the US. Here is Oz they rarely cover up unless its in prime time between 6pm and 8:30pm. Pretty much after that we quite liberal on public tv.
