For years I have been confused as to what bit the seat is, as both bits are seats. I always have the seat down and always leave it down at others, but I used to get told off for that too, she used to moan that I hadn't put the seat down when she meant the lid (witch after all is also a seat so I suppose she was right)
I also get annoyed when the seat (the one with the hole in it) is left up, so always put it down and leave it there. The lid I think is superfluous in this day and age.
Strange topic but at least I know now what bit you girls are generally looking to keep down.
