I found this tidbit on a Yahoo Naturist group. Has anybody else heard of this? It sounds too stupid to be true! You never know about the accuracy or authenticity of some of the "information" on the internet, but you also never know how rediculous legislators are willing to get to control people's personal lives.

Louisiana May Ban Low-Slung Pants BATON ROUGE, La. (AP)
People who wear low-slung pants that expose skin or "intimate clothing" would face a fine of up to $500 and possible jail time under a bill filed by a Jefferson Parish lawmaker. State Rep. Derrick Shepherd said he filed the bill because he was tired of catching glimpses of boxer shorts and G-strings over the lowered belt lines of young adults. The bill would punish anyone caught wearing low-riding pants with a fine of as much as $500 or as many as six months in jail, or both. "I'm sick of seeing it," said Shepherd, a first-term legislator. "The community's outraged. And if parents can't do their job, if parents can't regulate what their children wear, then there should be a law." The bill would be tacked onto the state's obscenity law, which restricts sexual activity in public places and the sale of sexually explicit items. Joe Cook, head of the American Civil Liberties Union's Louisiana chapter, said the bill probably does not meet the U.S. Supreme Court's standard for the prohibition of obscene behavior under the First Amendment. "What about a woman who is wearing a bathing suit under her garment or she has something like a sarong wrapped around her and it's below her waist," he said. "I can think of a lot of workers, plumbers, who are working and expose their buttocks."

If this is true, this clown thinks he should be able to dictate that people should dress according to his taste. Sounds to me like he should be working in government in a communist or dictatorship style nation.

Randy,

Doesn't suprise us! We're with you, hope this isn't true. Even worse...if it's true, and they are able to enforce a dress code, what would be next!!?

These politicians got to get a life!

Let's face it. Kids dress funny. When we were kids, we dressed funny. When our parents were kids, they dressed funny.

Like Kim pointed out, the style has been around for a few years. Quite a few actually. Now it's an issue?

It's not a joke, it's for real. Local talk radio are really hammering at that guy saying things like "Don't you have more important things to do?" I don't like those types of pants especially since they are appearing on younger and younger girls (I blame the parents since they have money and the children don't) but this isn't something that deserves legislation. They don't expect it to pass as law.

We the willing who are led by the unknown must do the impossible for the ungrateful.

I think they should make all clothes illegal! They just look so silly on people, I am tired of going to the store and seeing people wear Cloth of all sorts, be it wool, rayon, spandex, etc!!

And people shouldn't wear boots, it hurts when they step on my feet when I wear sandals! People should only be allowed to wear open toed shoes!

I should be a congressman or senator or even President! I promise a pool in every backyard and the browning of America (Which could probably lose me the White Supremacist vote, but who cares? )

I don't think the legislators should get involved in something like this, they have much more important things to do. The kids are only doing it for attention, and if no one pays any attention to it, then it will eventually go out with all the other fads.

hey,everyone,

this is an election year, and ths is only the beginning. think that legislator has been out in the sun too long or out at night too late. it's like years ago when they said that Playboy and Mad Magazine would ruin the country's youth.

Playboy had some good articles and interviews, but I think the kids only looked at the pictures. I loved Mad magazine, maybe thats where I get my warped sence of humour.

I loved Mad magazine, old Alfred E Newman and "what me worry"?

I'm guilty as charged Kim. As a teenager, I only looked at the pictures and read the cartoons in Playboy. lol

Reguardless of age it is not up to the government to decide, it is up to the parents to set the guidlines for their kids, and follow up to be sure they are following the rules set by by them.If you have a problem with how society works don't make laws to correct it fix society!!!!Dave...

Your right about that Dave, the government should not be policing things like that. We wouldn't have all these problems if parents would do their job of raising their kids in stead of leaving it up to the government or society.

Well, I am not sure if most of the parents are up to their jobs nowadays. Besides, with the ever expanding information superhighway and many choices of high-tech communications (cell phone, instant messaging), fads like low-slung pants can spread like wildfires among the younger generation in no time.

I think it is tough world to bring up kids nowadays.

I think your right Bernie, they have so much more information, and so many more choices to make, plus I think they have a lot more peer pressure.
