When I am in my room I am usually nude, but it gets annoying to have to put clothes on to walk downstairs. Although she went to the nude beach with my family and I was I was young, she never went nude. How should I go about discussing this with her? Thanks

Maybe just wear a towel wrapped around you and ask, "Grandma, is this attire okay with you." Just see what her response is to that. If you share meals with her, she might appreciate you being clothed at the dinner table. My mom requested that of us. Cheri

Thanks Cheri.
When I was young, my grandfather and I used to walk around in towels after we had gotten out of the pool (we went skinny dipping all the time. I never wore a bathing suit). I will give it a shot. I remember they used to make towels with elastic and snaps for this purpose. Do you know of where I can get one? Thanks again for the great advice.

Hello Everyone,
CADET GEBHARDT and Cheri, I guess this is a question that the two of you could give some input on (seems like no one else is around). Before my question, I would like to thank Cheri for all she puts into this movement. I spent the last couple of days simply touring various subjects, pics and profiles and it appears that every issue faced with in society is also shared here. The exception or difference is were nudist. We like being naked more that we are sometimes allowed to be. I've viewed topics regarding race, children and a pro-war vet vs. and I quote in the vets opening words " old hippie". I mean come on, that little debate is at the center of what I have viewed this site to be. The ultimate discussions regarding our right to choose nudity (I feel I was born a nudist) and anothers ideal to suppress that right.
In the case to the vet, he choose to believe in a cause and fight for our freedom (freedom versus communism). However, the "Old Hippie" decided that Moral Consciousness was the right direction for the country and decided to stand against war in protest. That in fact is the root of our battle. Choice, opposition and law. Our choice to be nude, the oppositions attempt to suppress that right and finally the rule makers (laws). Because in reality, nudity in the big is no more than an exercised privilege we are allowed in many places. They (the opposition) are attempting to utilize law to take it away. This is the focus we must keep.... which leads me to my next issue. My employment and my choice to be a nudist. This type of information placed in the public could ruin 15 years of government service. How does one approach this?

DKS, This is a better question for Cheri, i am still new to all this.
Cheri, this morning after getting out of bed, instead of putting on clothes, i wrapped myself in a towel as you suggested. As I was downstairs eating my breakfast, my grandmother came down and commented, "I like you're skirt" and laughed. I guess she is ok with me walking around in a towel. Should I approach her about being fully nude or should I wait a little while?

It seems she accepted you in the "skirt." You might wait a few days to see what happens before you ask if the towel is necessary.
I wish you the best, Cheri

I just try to do what I can with being a nudist for over 39 of my 59 yrs. :)
I've been a State employee these past 13 yrs. No one is going to "out" you. Only you can do that. I started working in State gov't. when I moved to SC in the Board of Health. It wasn't as accepted as it is at the University where I have been these 12 yrs. I waited a good 2 yrs. before I let it slip I am a skinny dipper. I thought I needed to as I was narrator and appeared in a piece on Turner South TV. I like using that term when I speak with the general public rather than nudist or naturist. It doesn't have the misperceived connotation that nudist has.
Regards, Cheri

Well, day 2 of the towel experiment: When I got home from school today about 2 hrs ago, i went upstairs and got undressed, then put a towel around me and walked downstairs. My grandmother said nothing. I then commented that "I need to buy one with the elastic and snaps because this one keeps falling off" She said, "so why not just put on pants?" and I replied "because it's more comfortable this way" and she agreed. I'm still not sure if she would allow me to walk around naked but being in a towel is definately better than have clothes on.

It's beginning to sound like you need a kilt! That is for the time not at home.

Go with the "skirt" thing for a while. I myself have a short wrap like you are wondering about. Have used one for years. I usually get them at JC Penny. As for asking your grandmother just ask in a simple direct way. I have found that to be best. If she is ok with the towel only jusy go with that. Its all about respect.

At worst, I've found that a track singlet always works. You can get them at any sporting goods store, with or without built in underwear. (And without works quite well... feels good without exposing yourself to prying or unwanting eyes.)

Yet another update: So last night, i left my room to go into the bathroom and was putting the towel around me as I walked out the door. My grandmother noticed and commented, "Why even bother with the towel?" Should I take that as an "OK" to walking around the house naked or would it be better to actually sit and talk with her, although it is an uncomfortable topic to discuss?

I think your doing fine so far. If you can go from the bedroom to the bathroom nude (I assume there both upstairs) I would do so. Also try leaving the door to your room open a little. When I was married everyone was nude upstairs. Including both of my daughters (all 3 bedrooms are upstairs). My wife was never comfortable being downstairs nude. Always worried about some at the door etc. She would wear a wrap or robe at home but, seldom much else. Everyones comfort level is different. Be careful what you wish for. You may come home to find grandma in the buff.

Bob, I have been leaving my bedroom door open all the way lately and nothing has been said. I have even had full conversations with her. The last 2 days while sitting in the living room downstairs, I have been sitting with my towel open (so that I was just sitting on it) and also, nothing has been said.
Thanks for your advice.

Sounds like things are going great. Your Grandma sounds pretty cool with the idea.
