OK now...will I find everyone walking around with perfect bodies? All of a sudden I've discovered flaws on my bod I didn't even know I had!Geez...I'd hate to think I have to join the Hemlock Society after this :)

Absolutely not! Naturists are your average folks. Probably more so than what you find on a typical textile beach. You should find us an excepting lot, because we all come as we are, no pretenses. Good luck!

When either the wife or myself are asked if everybody at the club or beach has the perfect body we laugh as we are by no stretch of the imagination Venus and Adonis. We just tell folk that if they look at the people walking around the local supermarket, all shapes and sizes, all ages, all religions, those are the people you will see at a nudist gathering.
In fact there are very few Venus's and Adonis's we have seen, the majority are normal every day folk just like you and I.

Spread the word.. nude is best. Bob..

happyshiloh, If you visit the nudist resort I do you will find few if any 'perfect bodies.' Just bodies of many varieties. Matters not, feeling the early morning sun on your whole body or even better an afternoon breeze more than compensates for all the imperfect bodies.

Best Wishes, Jim

The solution for me for the first-time nude beach experience was that the beach was A LONG WAY FROM HOME ! There was not a chance to meet people who already knew me. And I knew that I would not see the people again !
I did not go abroad just for this - a (female) friend of mine and I went to Germany on a vacation (we live in the UK). And my friend suggested a nude beach. I was way too shy and said NO but she made me come along. My mum, who is from Iran, gave me a very oldfashioned, Middle East upbringing and even if I was 20 years old at the time I was a VIRGIN in every respect of the word.
Once we had entered the nude area we had crowds of naked people around us. I had NEVER ever seen a boy naked before and here there were old big men with small 'equipment', young boys with huge equipment, gorgeous boys and ugly, fat men. And for quite some time I was just staring. Yes, I admit, I did STARE !
What do you think ? - my friend asked.
'Whatever you do, don't tell my mother, was all I replied...'

But now I am grateful that she took me to the beach. After 3 days on this beach I was 'cured'. And on the 4th day I was the one who suggested another nude beach visit. And it was SO natural...

In other words, if you are afraid of the dark - walk around in the darkness..

I was able to visit Whispering Pines over the weekend. While there I got talking to a guy on this subject I can't help but comment on how many of the guests were older and how there bodies showed the ravages of time. I think it is somewhat amazing how the younger generation is so embaressed about their bodies. These kids who are so young and healthy are so brainwashed to believe they are unattractive! Man our society has done a number on there heads. I was talking to another guy there about it and he was saying you have to reach a certain age to not give a damn anymore at some point you just say hey this is me and if you don't like tough!!

I have been working on this issue for a while now and I think that I will still go to c/o places with my husband, but just wear a bikini for now, I did buy a semi sheer sun dress and may try topless after a while. Guess time will tell if I ever gather up the nerve to go nude.

Thanks for the help

Cheryl, A sheer anything is exhibitionistic and not nudist. A bikini is a bit so too. You'd be better to wear a long tshirt than what you describe. Nudism is about the freedom from tight constricting clothing, not showing one's self off.

My wife made the comment to me once that in a bikini most women have already shown the areas of their bodies they are most embarressed about so going nude is not that much of a stretch.

I would suggest as Cheri does a nice big T-shirt or perhaps a colorful sarong or pareo. Good luck enjoy and I'm sure your husband appreciates your efforts

When one has a moment to ponder, one does a lot of "what if?" however, take your time and in due course, you will arrive at the right answer for you. It does appear that your husband wants to share a hobby with you. Time will help in your answer.

Cheryl, The best part about C/O is the optional part. You can cover or expose as much as you want. After a while you may join us that only wear clothes when and where we have to or NOT. The important part is that you are willing to make the effort.

I disagree that a long sun dress that is slightly see through, or that wearing a bikini is being an exhibitionist. I have seen women in long sarongs that blow open in the wind, flashing whats underneath. Is that being an exhibitionist? Not everyone has been at this for 30 years, you seem to think that if your not nude or in a t shirt, your being lude and not a "proper" nudist. Sorry to disagree with you, but if nudism is about being free from judgement, then don't judge everyone who isn't like you. Its not always as easy to do things in 2007 as it was in 1967. Sometimes you have to start slow.

Cheryl,
You are on the right track, start slow. We have been to several Nude Beaches and have seen lots of bikinis. Most of the time they end up nude before the day is over, or at least topless.

Looking back my wife only went topless the first time we tried it. The next trip she was ready to go for it and has been hooked ever since.

I consider a topless woman on a nude beach to be a nudist in training. LOL

If the see through helps you warm up to nudism, so be it. A see through might attract gawkers. As long as it isn't your intention to exhibit, I have no problem with it.

The long shirt is another way to warm up to nudism, and it is free from constriction. But a long shirt exposes whenever you need to squat or bend over. But does that bother you? If it doesn't bother you, then you're on the way to becoming a nudist.

As Cheri says, nudism is about freedom from constricting clothes instead of showing body. It is a matter of attitude, as to whether there is exhibitionism. Sometimes you have to start slow.

Naturally, Catbird

Firstly, Hi from Sydney Australia.

My wife and I have had several discussons about where to go/what to do for our first time. After contacting several clubs and a resort which is clothes optional and finding the locations of some beachs we are still yet to choose.
Ofcourse my wife has what would seem to be the usual reservations - gawkers and lookers, too old, too fat etc etc.
But after some info from the clubs that we contacted, we have pretty much decided to give the CO resort and beachs a miss.
We have decided to go for the clubs as both are nude (except if the wether is too bad). We figure that apart from the first few minutes of feeling "naked" as everyone else is nude that it wouldn't take too long to get used to a social nude experience rather than half the crowd clothed and the other half nude.
Does anyone have a similiar experience or does anyone think that we are just jumping in at the deep end and need to give it more thought.

Our first experience was at a Nude Beach, the only advantage of that or a CO resort is that your wife can hold on to her clothes till she feels comfortable. How ever if at a Nude Resort she is willing to go for it right away, then in 5 min she will be fine and you won't have the Gawkers to contend with.

Everyone is different so do what's right for you and it sounds like you already have a plan.
