Most people would say no, a camera is not welcome on a nude beach. The reason for this is the discomfort it causes some nudists to be photographed by someone they don't know. On the other hand, when visiting a public beach like Haulover Beach in Miami, you are technically in public. Your expectation of privacy is small when in a place with so many people. That is why there has been some confusion whether someone photographing people at the nude beach are breaking some kind of law or not. In one case, the offending videographer was confronted by the police because his behavior was upsetting to several people. Obviously, he was interested in taking pictures of people he didn't know personally.

On the other hand, often friends bring cameras to bring back pictures of themselves on their trip, and they use it with courtesy and consideration to others.

Do you think people should be allowed to freely use their cameras at the nude beaches? (Hit "Reply to Topic" to respond.)

It depends on the group your with and the places that you go. Most Nudists gaurd their privacy, they really don't like the unscrupulous individuals out there who haunt the beaches looking for nude shots to post up on the internet. In my experience if an individual who is obviously taking pics of "just about evrybody with out their permisision" hes asked nicely to not take pics. Generally before I take any pics I get the permission of the perrson I am taking a pic of. The pics are generally in good taste also, reflecting the energy of the moment and not the fact that they are nude.

Has anyone had a bad experience in regards to this.... Im sure their out there.

I only take photos with permission. I have had photos of me take without my knowledge. That is very frustrating. I don't mind if it's for a nudist publication or as a souvenir of a trip for someone I've met, but never for someone's illicit pleasure

I have been there when someone's camera was taken and film removed.

I am often the official photographer and a few clubs that we frequent.

Regards, Cheri

I always take my digital camera on our outings and events to have photographs taken of myself and any other Sun Devil members who would like to be photographed as well. We never take a nude photo of any other person unless we have permission from them... and we are careful not to include others in our photos unless we are sure that they don't mind. We never take any photos of anyone under 18... even if we are requested to. I can tell you this however... if you are in any public place... anyone has the legal right to photograph you... nude or otherwise..!

I too take my cam with me to the beach. Not to take pics of others (unless they want me to), but to get pics of myself, my friends, the dolphins playing in the surf, the surfers, and the occasional Marine Corps LCAC (hovercraft). The beach I go to, San Onofre State Beach in Southern California, abuts Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base.

Hi, If you were at a nude beach, I would handle picture taking just like we do at my resort. I assume you are with a few people, so ask a stranger to take a picture of all of you folks. Next ,if you intend to take pictures of your friends, tell people sitting or standing around you, what you are doing, that it is only photos of friends. If you have a digital, then it is perfect because you can tell people they can see the pictures. At our hotel, our rule is a staff member has to ALWAYS be with someone when they are taking pictures so that all the guests feel comfortable.
My feelings are if you tell people what you are doing, they won't be offended. And if you take pictures of strangers, then that is rude and you are doing so at your own risk.

Finally, I would like to discuss the myth of having your picture on the internet. We have very popular websites. We have around 30,000 - 35,000 people per week look at our sites. I am topless or nude on many pages. I have written articles and have been published with nude photos on about 15 different sites. I always identify myself by my real name because I am proud to be a nudist. Now I am 22, have done modeling, am considered to be pretty, have nude or topless pictures of myself all over the internet promoting nudism and we only get maybe 2 or 3 rude e-mails a day and that is with around 5000 people a day looking at our sites. I am not afraid that a porno site would use a photo of me, because my pictures are nonsexual and boring. And if a nudist site uses a picture of me without my permission, it is rude because they should have asked, but picture tells a 1000 words and if I tell people it is OK to be nude, then I better do it myself.
So don't worry so much if your picture is "on the web," because it is no big deal. Besides your name won't be there with your picture. I am also submitting photos to this site so that people who are afraid to go nude can see if I can be brave enough to go nude, so can they.

They don't care, they will use them anyway. I've had mine stolen from a nudist site and posted on a porn site before and I'm not so young and pretty so don't be fooled. Personally I don't care much if they do steal them. When I can I have them removed just for principle's sake.... it is stealing, but I really don't worry about it.

As for cameras on the beach, it is a public place so although it is rude to take pics without asking permission it is totally legal so if you are hiding the fact that you are a nudist, stick with the private clubs and stay off the beaches. I take my camera but I keep the shots to friends and scenery, not my nude neighbors.

I personally would not mind my pic being taken. I do resent not being able to take pics of my own family as long as I respect the privacy of others around me.

Personally, I'd also avoid showing up at a nude beach with my SLR+zoom lens. I'd feel like that would make a lot of people nervous. A cheap disposable to make memories of the day is all I'd go for. They even have disposables that are encased in waterproof plastic which is nice because sand and water can get EVERYWHERE. I wouldn't want to ruin a good lens or camera body with grit and/or saltwater.

If you bring a camera to a nude beach to photograph your self and friends - where can you get the photos developed? Wouldn't the local camera store freak out? Can the be developed if they are tastefully shot?

Just about anyplace will develop simple nude photos. Some freak at sexual shots, others at nude children but plain nudity with adults in the shots should be no problem except maybe for Walmarts. I use York and mail them out. York will develop just about anything.

Out of my mind.....

I bring my film to a 1-hr. place and usually wait for it. You can go to your local mall, drug store, whatever. Talke to the person behind the counter and tell them what is on the roll, non-sexual nude photos at the nude beach.
You might also tell them of any nudist organizations to which you belong. I have a great relationship with the processing department of our local Eckerd's for the past 10 years. Before that, when I lived in the Southern Plains states, MotoPhoto was where I took my film.

Lately, I've been taking more digital photos than the 35 mm.

Best regards, Cheri

Thanks for the info on photo processing. I'm off to my first time and want memories to take home. I'm also an artist who travels alot to paint and want to branch out from landscapes to nudes(if you can paint a nude you can paint anything - it's the toughest)- so this will enable me to make sketches starting with me as the model!

I have a digital I take with me so I don't have to have anything developed. I would be a little careful taking your film to Wal-Mart for processing, I've heard some real horror stories about that place.

Nude when possible, clothed when practical.

The only time I every had a problem with Wal-Mart is at the one hour. They wouldn't print toppless pictures. The over night never had a problem.
