I was circumcised as a baby, and to be honest I do not remember anything  . My sons were also circumcised at birth, and all that happened was a slight wimper, give them a teaspoon of wine and then a good suckle on their mothers breast. They don't remember anything either!

Cony, I assume the circumcisions you are reporting about were not done in a hospital. Would it be correct to say that they were done by a Rabbi? That is not a reasonable comparison to one performed with a electric scapel. If you would like to dispute my observations, please be kind enough to compare like circumstances.

I remember some awkwardness in the shower after gym class, being the only one with foreskin, but that’s part of growing up. Some say cut is better looking, I disagree and my wife would also. We have two sons and she would not have them cut, End of Discussion! I wouldn't have allowed it either, but it was funny seeing her strong reaction to the subject.

I remember the first time I saw an uncircumcised penis. My initial reaction was that it looked "weird", but I really didn't want to think about it at all, so I ignored it at the time. The next time I saw one, it occurred to me that the REAL weirdness was that that's the way nature intended it to be. I actually got self-conscious, even though I was in the majority (at least in this country).
It was kind of an interesting experience.
Btw, I don't think either state is weird, anymore.

Briarabbit - I do not dispute your observations - but - I was circumcised in hospital and still don't remember anything, and yes my sons were done by a rabbi.

I had a friend at the club I belonged to that was in his 30's when he checked into the hospital to get circumcised,he stated he was self -concious when he went to his local ymca,I couldn't understand because he was a nudist,I told him I wish I was given a choice about being circumcised.I have also read several articles on stretching the foreskin to fold over the penis head,there are several devices but it can also be accomplished with tape,but it take quite amount of time to see any results.

My cousins have what I call the lipstick effect, small foreskins, and they can pull it back and you wouldn't know they hadn't been circumsized or they can leave it on and it covers all the way to the tip (you can't see any pink). If people want to circumsize their boys so much they should figure out how to get the "lipstick effect" and not go all the way, right away without the child having a say in it.
Then it leaves them the option when they are older of either getting it cut off or leaving it.

I know you asked this question a LONG time ago, (2004) but I just read it and would like to speak for one who was circumcised at birth: If I were any more sensitive, I think I would have problems "waiting" during "intimate" times. (Hope this post is okay.) I like me like I am.
Also, my late wife was a nurse, and insisted on circumcision for my 3 sons - health and cleanliness issues.
I also know a Romanian family, whose oldest son confided in me many years ago about his concern being UNcircumcised. He was planning to get married soon. He was a very clean person and had no medical problem with being uncircumcised, so I advised him to leave well enough alone, stay clean, and just enjoy "as-is".
Comparing circumcision to breast implants? Doesn't quite compute in my book. I understand there's something a male can have implanted... but that's for another thread.

I restored mine, and it has improved things tremendously, I cannot see how a doctor could do that to a human being who can not consent, cleanliness is a lame reason, we have running water and showers now, health reasons are non-existant if you actually look at the data and various studies at least no health effect that warrants the damage done
pre-adult circumcision (male or female) without immediate reason should be illegal and the doctors should be jailed, we are keeping boys from experiencing the full sexual enjoyment but we despise ther cultures for doing it to women

Viper, God decreed it to Abraham (then Abram) that all male children be circumcised. It is a covenant with God to those of the Jewish faith and adhered to.

even if that was true, christians did not worry about till the victorian era, then it must be done? that doesn't make sense

Acts 11:1-18 talks about this, but it's really long, so I won't quote it all. It tells how Peter was sent to the Gentiles (uncircumcised) and that the power of God in a man's life is more important than what he eats or whether he has been circ'ed.

Viper7 You quote 1 Cor.7.9 " -----Keeping God's commands is what counts----" As Cheri has already pointed out it was a Covenant from G-d, or command if you prefer that word, to Abraham that all males should be circumcised on the child's eighth day. This you will find in the Book of Genesis. Abraham circumcised himself at the age of 99 as well as Issac his son. The law in Judaism is quite specific and we are obeying the command from The Eternal One.
In some religions and cultures, females are circumcised You are entitled to your opinion but conversely we as Jews have the right to follow the laws of ours. The word mutilation is a little emotive and having gone through the operation myself as an adult I was delighted to be rid of the foreskin. Yes, I made the decision myself but had I been brought up as a Jew I would have expected my parents to make the decision for me and been pleased that they did.
There are cases where Jewish parents are debating whether to have the son circumcised but they are a very small minority and if must be a decision that they make alone.

I am not circumcised and did not have my son circumcised. My father in law rally fought me on this topic as he decided to be circumcised when he was in his 20's. I was teased in school but my son has not had that problem because there are several of the kids in his school that are not circumcised.

I'm not circuncised and i like it and i prefer not to be.
My father is very open minded and he's cinrcuncised, and he was with 18 maybe. I tell me that he had more pleauser than now.
But i dont know. If i were circuncised i would be happy in the same way
