Words of wisdom to you when you do: you have to figure out how to turn it off before going to bed. Otherwise the batteries die. I probably should have known that, but my brain is missing right now.

BTW- my hair is much shorter now, though I like my hair much better in this picture. I grew it out really long (to my waist) so I could donate it to people who've lost their hair due to cancer. A lot of people in my family have had cancer, so it's a cause that I'm more than willing to donate to. And my hair will grow longer again at it's own pace, right?

that is called "Locks for Love" - our synagogue's Sisterhood donated one of the ladies' looooong locks. Her hair was to her knees.

Melissa;
That is one of the sweetest acts of kindness. A friend of mine has cancer and lost all of her hair do to chemotherapy. The last time she was in the US she received a wig made from hair that someone had donated. She is a changed person now and has a positive outlook on life.

So what happens with the hair? I'm guessing its made into a wig? In Australia, we have a day were people donate money to anybody willing to have their head shaved. Donating hair sounds like a way better option.

Yep, once you donate it they make it into a wig. My understanding is that if you donate your hair then someone receives the wig free of charge or at a low, low cost. They don't shave your head to do it, just cut your hair very short. It grows back and it's for a worthy cause. Cancer is sad enough without the additional sensitivity to not having hair.

To be honest that sounds a little strange. Hopefully they wash it very well before they pass it on?

I don't color my hair... well, not yet, anyway. Once that grey starts coming in we'll talk. LOL I'm sure they wash it and do all sorts of things to it before passing it on. BTW, I wash my hair every day, so it's pretty clean :) (Not that you implied otherwise, mind you, but I figured I'd mention it.)

Nice to hear others donating their hair. Our oldest daughter is growing her hair out and will be donating her's as well. Great cause and you ladies should be thanked by all for doing such a nice thing. Last time I grew my hair long enough to donate, I was out of the Navy for about a year. Just my luck...I grew my hair long only to find out, long hair was out of style and short was making a comeback.
Now with my current profession, very strict hair length guidelines. I'll have to wait til I retire. By then I may not have any to grow!

Hmmm... I'm just not sure about long hair. Interesting idea though to help cancer sufferers. The other thing we have in Australia is Bandana Day. Were the cancer charity sells bandanas for a profit and all the money made goes to saving young kids with cancer.
