Good point, Nudesunguy!

It seems paradoxical, but social nudity is often best initiated with total strangers. They don't know you, they can't hurt you. Equally important is a safe setting with a place where one can temporarily retreat if necessary. There are plenty of resorts that are perfect for skittish first-timers.

I often wonder why grown adults all of a sudden decide to "get into" the nudist lifestyle just out of the blue. Sometimes it is as innocent as; they happen to go to a clothing optional beach, and simply discover they like the freedom of being clothes free. Then they decide to attend a nude resort, meet other like minded folk, join the resort and never vacation in clothes again:) This is what I would consider the "normal" progression of the "nudist convert"

That said: I am always skeptical of the of the person who approaches nudism with the ever popular" How to I get so and so to try nudism" As if you were getting the to "try" a type of food or something. This approach always seems to stem more from an exhibitionist type place rather then a change in lifestyle. And although there are exceptions to every rule..usually it seems that the person who is looking for advice on advice on how, or what to say, to "get" there spouse to "get naked" isn't really looking to change their lifestyle to the wonderful one most of on here practice.

A part of it might just be body acceptance as well as the lack of "peer pressure". When we are younger, we tend to be influenced by others a lot more than we are as we get older and much more comfortable as being our own selves. I know a lot of things I worried about in my 20's, I know longer worry about in my 40's because I'm more at ease with myself. I don't care what others think of certain things anymore.

To reply to allnaturalwife..my thoughts on nudism have always been there. Past situations have not allowed me to express it. I now have the opportunity to do so. I didn't grow up with clothes on, but my wife did. So I ask for advice from the knowledge of the helpfulll people on this forum. If I have offended..I apologize. If not.. then have a fun day.

To reply to rooftopwilly..no, It's not a lack of "body acceptance"..butI agree that when you get a little older.. you tend to lose some inhibitions. We live by ourselves..just us two. We don't have any children. So I get to say to myself..why not?? Finally, I have the chance. I would love, however, to bring my wife along with me. If she doesn't accept...then OK.

I dunno; maybe I'm blindly naive but I never saw it that way. When I was a husband trying to "convert" a wife, I had just discovered nudism, and wanted to take it to the next level: social nudism. And I wanted her to be right there next to me all the way. And granted, maybe it was selfish; but if I was going to be socially nude my wish was that she'd be nude right along and besides me. I can see how someone could interpret that (and it has happened) as: "Well he just wants to get his wife naked in public." But it's a little more profound than that. It's about getting the person you love to share something that you love/enjoy.

At least that's what it was for me; as I don't know what goes on in other guys' heads.

I didn't mean you in particular 804. I was talking in general. You're right, we do lose some inhibitions. That's the word I was trying to look for.

I agree with Nudony, it would be nice to be able to share the nudist experience with a loved one.
I got interested in nudisn in the late '70s. When I got married, my wife and I discussed my nudity and she"didn't have a problem". We went to church and then I saw very limited nude time in the next 10 years we were married (when I was alone).
Wife 2 spent many hours naked with me, in home, when we were going out. Agreed with the prospect of going to a nude beach or resort (away from local). She found a list of Florida resorts I had compiled and said "disgusting", then threw it down and left.
Good luck Fordman, I hope your wife is more open than mine were.

Jimmie

Jenn,

I've had similar thoughts when I read posts from people who say ... "I've decided to be a nudist." For those of us that have had this need/desire, unknown pull to live nude is quite a bit different from someone that's lived 40+ years and then decides ... "I think I'll be a nudist" just seems strange.

I can understand that same person stating ... "I've heard about it, read up on it and I'd like to try it..." but to state ... "I'm going to be a nudist," seems a bit like saying ... " I'm going to become a vegan." Not sure if that's the right analogy but it's 9:30p and my brain's not entirely engaged! hahaha

Another thing that ALWAYS amazes me is the relationship some of these men have with their wife. I just find it extremely hard to get my head around a couple that has entered into marriage and pledged their lives to one another, took vowes to live as one and want to spend the rest of their lives together ... but the wife doesn't want or can't stand to see him naked ... what is up with that!???

I think many guys try to sprint right out of the gate with their wife's in regard to nudism/naturism. She decides to accept nudity as normal in the house, tries it and is okay with it and the next thing ya know ... they wanna take her to a social atmosphere and she revolts and she's usually lost forever.

If you're not born into this, have that deep seeded need/desire and pull to be a nudist and live naked as often as you can ... it doesn't come easy and sometimes it doesn't come at all ... but it definately won't be something a reluctant partner's gonna adopt as quickly as you might think.

Loves being naked. Plays well with others!

Sometimes, asking a question on this forum is like trying to drink from a fire hydrant.

Great point..but I feel like I have to learn how to drink somehow. And as of right now I want to be a sponge..even if a VERY large sponge for a fire hydrant.
