First of all...is "Mr. Freedom" the only male in the area? Or are there others around? Lets reverse this another way. Everyone is wearing clothes...therefore the erection can't be seen....the man who is lurking, and watching the family is being rude just watching...however if the man is just passing by, with clothes on....I don't see the need for the family to be alarmed. About the statistics...it appears that young men are stereotyped into being criminals before they even committ a crime...these statistics are probably responsible for 75% of young adults in America being single. Women read these statistic reports, decide to go about their business after reading, and then a nice looking man approaches her, and begins talking to her..Well after reading those statistics she would probably make an excuse as to why she has to go somewhere else.....America is paranoid because people in America stereotype others. Not all young men committ these crimes and not all young men are guilty for thinking about sex,due to the fact that they have an erection. Therefore, I cannot answer your question, because I do not know why the man has the erection, I do not know if the man is passing by, or is gawking, and I do not know if there are others on this beach besides the male and the family. If this were a math problem..I would have to answer..cannot solve..not enough information.

Ned, At the risk of blowing my own horn, I believe I did that as the very first response to the question when I offered him my thoughts. And FireProf was about to as well.

I'd keep going alone in the back yard for a while. I think it will stop happening to you after it becomes more normal feeling to you. It's probably the exhilaration of the experience and the sensation, and possibly the subconcious feeling of "naughtiness," programmed into you by society and upbringing.

After that, the whole thing deteriorated into yet another un-resolvable, philosophical analysis of the same topic that has been beaten to death with a closed fist in countless other threads, instead of people offering the guy some support and suggestions.

That's cool. And I hope I haven't sounded like a creep. I just think that bassman isn't getting too many helpful suggestions offered to him, and I'd rather he know that we are here to answer questions and concerns and help when we can. I'm afraid he might think he and his problem has been forgotten or ignored. It seems like any erection question asked ends up sounding like all the other erection topics.

The real answer ... don't worry about it. Being nude feels good ... and as a result we can become aroused. I don't try to repress it and I don't go looking to use it either. I understand the other views ... and I also know that as Americans we come from good Puritanical Stock ... it is still in the genes ... nudists and non-nudists. Lighten up everyone.

Yeah,
and what you said, in not using the same words, Randy, about a bunch of posts ago.
P.S. BTW, bassman...did you get any help from any of the posts here, at all?

The puritanical thing...too true....but hey someone has to make some noise and cause a tidal wave of change..otherwise everyone will still be living in the past. If it doesn't cause pain, it can't hurt anyone...If you believe in the 60's like so many nudists do...Let it be! Actually that song came out in 1970...Oh well you know what I mean..lol

There are two extreme views to be avoided: 1: "Sex is dirty, and if you even think about it in public, you'll go to hell!" 2: "It's my thing, and if you can't deal with it, you're a prude!"
I confess, since I came to nudism only in my 40s, that I have had no problem with unwanted erections. (Well, once as a teenager I went skinny-dipping by myself in a creek in rural Nebraska. There was a place where the creek narrowed and deepened so that it was only a couple of yards wide and about hip-deep. Yeah, you guessed it! The current raised my flagpole. Fortunately I was well away from view.) But, in my experience, once your subconscious is reconditioned away from the subconscious idea that nudity equals sex (well reinforced by Playboy, Madison Avenue, and their ilk), the problem "lowers". :)
I hope we didn't scare bassman away!

I used to pose for art classes at my university when I was a student and had never got aroused. That was until I decided to shave off all my body hair. I had just started posing for a class when I very rapidly got a full erection. I was going to cover myself up but the art teacher said it was perfectly OK. It felt a bit strange standing in the middle of a crowded room naked with an erection, especially since most of the students were female and my own age. No one seemed to be concerned about me being erect and I soon forgot about it.

Well, Matt, your story reminds us that there a few sane people out there! But I wouldn't expect the same reaction outside the arts crowd; they're a notoriously open-minded bunch. (I know; I'm a musician.)
Hmmm...Maybe shaving can substitute for Viagra. :D

Bassman, I understand what u mean, had the same problem. I just try to be nude more and more often, once I was fully comfortable with being nude the erections stopped for the most part. It may still happen every once in a while, that's natural, try not to let it embarrass you away from being a nudist though. It truly is a wonderful lifestyle.
Hope this helps.

quote: Why are you so hung up on the erection detail? There are rules and etiquette that have been established in regards to nudism way before you were born. Why is so difficult to follow the rules and etiquette?
Such arguments (of demeaning nature) are rarely effective and they may have the opposite effect usually painting a regressive epithet next to their author.
Example:
(a) A few thousand years ago Caveman1 to Caveman2 - "Shame on you cocky and conceited young man. Why are you not following hunting tradition which was established way before you were born ? What are you doing concocting this 'farming-gathering' heretic practice of yours ? Do you know how emparassing and silly that to your fellow hunters ?)
(b) Ancient Greece 509BC Elderly man speaking to Cleisthenes - "Shame on you cocky and conceited young man. The tenets of tyrany are tried and true and they were developed way before you were in diaper cloths. You are telling us "sunshine" that *you* know better than all the sages before you and dare to propose this democracy thingy of yours? Blasthemy! Come to your senses and listen to the wisdom of your forefathers. "
(c) a few thousand years later FireProf to young_nakedman - "Why are you so hung up on the erection detail? There are rules and etiquette that have been established in regards to nudism way before you were born. Why is so difficult to follow the rules and etiquette? "
----
As far as I can tell there is indeed a rift in this issue. However, a lot of objections seem to stem from rather deep taboo-rooted-biases (unconditional tradition clinging). There is nothing wrong with "tradition" in general but it would be a clear case of conceit from the old generation to insinuate *their* traditions (and theirs alone) were infallible and omniscient.

Ditto, Chuck!
Ned, the more comfortable you get with being nude, the less likely you are to get an erection while around other nudists. However, until you are in the zone, you will continue to be excited by the possibility of someone seeing you. That's probably not going to go away until some people do see you, you see them, and discover men are one basic design and women are another, but they'll be looking you in the eye during the serious discussions anyway.
Matt, I want to be like you... so who was the art teacher?
