I want a cool avatar but couldn't find one that fit my personality. Where did you all get your avatars? I've seen many interesting ones that aren't on the already-uploaded list. So... give me some hints: where do I get a cool one that fits me?

I am a graphic designer so I ended up making my own but originally I did a search on the internet for "avatar". There were a ton to choose from, some animated some not. If you go to http://www.google.com and click on the images button then type in "avatar" in the search box, a bunch should show up. Hope this helps.

An avator is pretty much just a small imagine. You can always reduce the size of a photo and upload it... Simple

I found a good avatar but can't seem to upload it. And I can't identify what the problem is. The file I have is a .bmp file- is that ok? Also, what megabite size is allowed? Maybe that will help me to problem solve. I may just take out my scanner tomorrow and scan a picture of me in. That would be fun! Then you could all see me :)

Your best bet is to convert it to JPG format and make sure its well under 100kb. If you want to e-mail it to me, I'll convert it and send it back to you.

I converted it to JPEG... I think I've got it now. It says it's uploaded, anyway. If this works I'll find a better one or use a picture, but I'll be glad to know that I've figured it out. Thanks for your help!

Nice avatar Melissa!
Just a note for those having trouble:
1] Be sure your filename is short, and has no spaces, only letters and numbers.
2] The largest size displayed is 100 x 100 pixels. Any image larger than that is a waste, since the browser will have to resize and the detail is not great.
3] Using Netscape to upload can be a problem. Try Internet Explorer instead.
4] An avatar that is not square can be correctly displayed by adjusting the ___x___ setting in your profile.

I got a digital camera tonight. Being that I'm truly a *special* individual right now (sick as a dog and not looking my best,) I took a picture of a picture of me. It's kind of blurry, probably because it's a picture of a picture, so I'll get a good picture of me soon. I'm loving the digital camera, though- how fun! And now I can have nude pictures of me taken... when I get up the courage!!!
