I find lack of physical fittnes that is a cycle that is tough to get out of....
... I know I should exercise ... I don't want to hurt ... I get more out of shape --- back to the top ---

I know what you mean bornnude, its a viscious cycle. One way to solve the problem is to put mirrors all over the house.

Philzer...you are absolutely right! Health should always be number 1. God only gave us one body and we should try to take good care of it.
Although, I must admit that when I'm in good shape, I feel healthier, both physically and mentally. I also feel better about myself. It might be the fact that I'm proud of staying in shape, or it might be vanity I dunno? Probably a little of both.

Exercise, in moderation, is good not only for your body appearance but also for your self esteem and for your mental well being too. It cuts down on stress.

Doctors say even a small amount of exercise each day is invaluable for your cardiovascular system.

So because only a little exercise is required each day, there really is no excuse for not particpating. Just take walk around your neighborhood , mall etc, and you'll soon be in good shape.

Or broke (If you walk around the mall all day ;)
Or even more out of shape if you stop at Cinnibon and such while walking ;)

NYnudistcpl, I think you captured quite well how I respond to exercise too. I originally got into it purely for health reasons, and pride in my physical appearance, plus feeling better overall, is what resulted. We take pride in what we accomplish, after all, so I think the result is self-confidence, not vanity.
Bornnude & Kimberly, I sympathize with what you're saying too, because exercise only succeeds when you commit to it, and it's hard sometimes. I'm fortunate to have figured out what I enjoy doing to stay in shape, otherwise I'd never have stayed with it. The older I get, the less impressed I am with health clubs. For me, the less equipment required, the more convenient, and (most importantly) the more FUN exercise is, the more likely you are to stick with it. My way was to start out slowly, not to get too ambitious at first, and just keep going. It works!

Your line of thought follows my sentiments exactly. I don't want people to feel bad about themselves. But if they can feel better about themselves and be healthier too, more power to 'em! If someone is happy the way they are, that's OK too!
I also think that if a person's motivation leans towards vanity, what's the harm? It will still help those people to be heart healthier too. I can tell you, recovery from by-pass surgery sucks.

Motivation is personal, of course. However, if one needs motivation to exercise, there are issues beyond health, vanity and a sense of well-being.
1. Survival. This is different from health. Fit people are much more resilient to illness and injury.
2. Quality of Life. Don't believe it? While it's still cold enough to wear clothes, put on a coat, add a few weights to the pockets, and go about some of the activities of daily life (shopping, cleaning,...). Then feel how good it feels to take the coat/weights off.
3. Money in your "pocket". (No, we nude types are pocket-challenged, I know...) The average medical cost of being unfit/overweight has been estimated to be $400 per American per year.
Again, motivation is personal. But at least there's a long list of motivators!
