I just saw a show called 'I Lost It!' (No its not what you think!). Its a show where they show people loosing weight. Well this one had a guy who went to a naturist resort (er, sorry, Nudist Colony , as his friend said) and everyone was fine with his weight (250 or somethin), but he decided he needed to loose weight so now he is 175 or something and all healthy. They did a good job of shooting and talking about naturism and its accepting body beliefs. Pretty good.

If someone wants it I can put it up somewhere for people to D/L. I'll make a small version for those not blessed with High Bandwidth :)

Despite the origin of the word gymnasium (Greek gymnos meaning naked, nude)vigorous aerobic activity is personally more comfortable with "appendages" supported. The exception, of course, is swimming where buoyancy and drag provide their own stabilizing forces.

One might imagine that towel use, detergent purchase and wear-and-tear on the washer and drier might be considerable...!

pilot ancient Greece was a mans world. The men may have exercised in the nude, and participated in the olympic games nude, but women were not allowed. There was even a part of the home called the mens room, where the men got together, drank and had fun. It was later on before women were allowed that freedom. Women could attend specific public baths during the time of the Ceasars.

Kim, you're right, Greeece was a man's society. But I think there some ocassions where women (single) could go to the games. I also think there might have been a separate Olympics where women (again single)could compete in some all women events. I remember seeing a show on the History channel or one of those educational channels about ancient Greece.Married women were rarely seen in public. If a married guy went out for a night on the town, he went out with a courtesan. Times have changed for the better, "eh?"

Kimberly is quite correct that Ancient Greece was a male-centered society. Of course, there's the "be careful what you wish for, guys" aspect.

When those Greek guys would have serious athletic contests, they were called agone, and a simple vowel substitution provides more than adequate commentary on why one might not want to be a guy in that situation.

The women of ancient Greece were no less resourceful then than they are today with respect to managing guys who misbehave. Aristophanes made this abundantly clear when he penned Lysistrata.

In ancient Greece, Single women were permitted to attend the games but they were clothed while the men were nude. It was a place where women could shop for potential husbands and vice versa. When women competed in seperate games they wore togas with one breast exposed (go figure)
