I think your right Tweety about turning off the TV and making the kids go out and play. Your kids were lucky to have a dad that would play with them. Its hard to send teenagers out to play, thats so unbecoming of them. What I was refering to in costs was organized activities like hockey, soccer, ice skating, skiing. I think the schools should have more activities avail for all kids. The YMCA and YWCA used to do that but you do not hear much about that anymore.

When I was a kid we just naturally went outside. I grew up near a lake so it was no big deal to walk down to the playground, go to the tennis courts, feed the ducks, etc. once I could cross the street by myself (age 5 or so.) Also, we had a big swimming pool with diving board and slide, a big trampoline, many trees to climb, places to dig, and a stream we could wade through pretty much in our back yard. Why stay inside when the outside is an adventure? Even if I wanted to do a solitary activity such as reading I went outside. Here in the city the kids don't have these same opportunities and with our expanding population there are few small, rural communities such as I grew up in. It's sad, because playing outside encompasses my best memories of childhood.

I grew up in a rural area too, seems like life was so much easier. Kids that live in a big city have to put up with so much stress.

I agree. Kids spend too much time in front of the tv or playing the video games. As a kid, I was outside as often as possible playing with the other kids on the block. We were healthier then and I think we still are.

You have a point there IrishRed; your health pattern is established in youth. If you didn't get out an exercise as a teen, more than likely you will not as an adult.

played sports and was outside all the time weather permitting and sometimes even then. a couple of things here. life is so structured for youth nowadays that they have little free time to do things spontaneously. thus the fridge, the tv and video games. also many parents now use tv as babysitter, so no freedom for kids to be out and about.

That is what I was saying Calmnude, plus most kids do not have parents at home most of the time. With little guidance from parents, kids eat fast food because its readily available, tastes good, and all their peers do it.

There are some schools (grammar, junior hig, and senior high) that are stressing better diets and even removing the junk food and soft drinks vending machines. That might help the kids to develop better eating habits. The fast foods are the worst.

That is a good start Irish Red, but it has to start at home too. Too many parents eat that way too, that is where the kids learn it.

Kim, you are correct, as usual, that it must be started at home. I agree. I thought it is interesting that schools are trying to do something about it, too.

We as nudists believe the body is beautiful...fat or thin... ample or anorexic. Because we know its not the body..but the person in side that we love and respect...I think it incumbent upon us to inspire healthy life styles and to provide a positive reference and support for those who are seeking to be more healthy..be that to add pounds or to shed pounds... but at the end of the day...its not the package...its the"shelf life"..and we that love the contents of the package more than the package...should do all we can do to add to the 'shelf life' of our friends and colleagues.

My diet starts tomorrow! I haven't figured out all the idiosyncrasies yet, but I will be decreasing portion size and actually THINKING about the nutritional value of everything that goes into my mouth. That doesn't mean I'll be living on lettuce and apples, though. If I had to eat all healthy stuff I wouldn't stick to the diet and I'd no longer have any reason to live. Life without cheese steaks: what's the point????

You don't look like you need to diet. <plug> I hope the diet is more to improve your overall health and that nudism has helped you appreciate your body and that this diet is what you need to be doing to best care for your body. </plug>
Since you are not following any particular diet, here are some unsolicited suggestions that I believe many successful diets seem to incorporate in one way or another: stuff yourself full of lettuce and apples and carrots and other veggies and fruits so that you are never hungry. Lettuce is really good for that. Decrease portion size for foods with added sugars, for starches, meats and fats. Eat nuts and raisins to insure your body does not go into starvation mode from too little calories. Loose slowly and with lots of exercise. Best of luck, Melissa :-) ST

Sounds great StuffedTiger, almost like the South beach diet, and your right, diet alone usually doesn't work, have to have the exercise along with it.
