I gained quite a bit of weight over the holidays, after that picture was taken, so I just want to lose enough to fit into my pants comfortably again. I'm not fat and it has nothing to do with what I look like, it has everything to do with the fact that I'm too cheap to go out and buy a new wardrobe! If I could be nude all the time this just wouldn't be an issue- no pants to fit into.

Melissa

Melissa I feel the same way, I gained 5 lbs over the holidays, and the clothes I do wear fit tight. I am eating better now and working out to loose those pounds. I do not think you are cheap, I think you are being sensible.

just another battle to stay healthy. good thing the holidyas have given me an aversion to sweets and fat-filled fluffy foods. the tightness laidiws, is just a gentle reminder, like the notch in the belt thats a little tight.

put down the fork.

tell yourself summer is coming and your color tone wil look much better with a little less weight.

exercisw. (besides, melissa, if you become mom, you wont have time to eat any more).

Its just that you nibble while your cooking, and of course you have to sample all the cakes, cookies and pies you aremaking, don't want anything to go to waste, but it all goes to waist

Tidbit:

White bread converts to sugar immediately, but wheat bread slows down the process,
so it's more likely to be used instead of stored as fat.

Taxpayers Shelling Out Billions for Obesity
Study Shows Heavy Financial Burden of National Epidemic
By MARK NIESSE, AP

ATLANTA (Jan. 21) - Taxpayers foot the doctor's bill for more than half of obesity-related medical costs, which reached a total of $75 billion in 2003, according to a new study.

The public pays about $39 billion a year - or about $175 per person - for obesity through Medicare and Medicaid programs, which cover sicknesses caused by obesity including type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, several types of cancer and gallbladder disease.

The study, to be published Friday in the journal Obesity Research, evaluates state-by-state expenditures related to weight problems. The research was done by the nonprofit group RTI International and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

"Obesity has become a crucial health problem for our nation, and these findings show that the medical costs alone reflect the significance of the challenge," said Tommy Thompson, secretary for the Department of Health and Human Services. "Of course, the ultimate cost to Americans is measured in chronic disease and early death."

States spend about one-twentieth of their medical costs on obesity - from a low of 4 percent in Arizona to a high of 6.7 percent in Alaska.

California spends the most on health care for the obese, $7.7 billion, and Wyoming spends the least, $87 million.

"We have a lot of taxpayers financing the costs of overweight and obesity for those in public sector health plans," said Eric Finkelstein, a health economist with RTI International who conducted the study. "That provides justification for governments to find cost-effective strategies to reduce the burdens of obesity."

About 64 percent of adults in the United States are either overweight or obese, according to the CDC's 1999-2000 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey.

Physicians are seeing more and more people having health problems because they're overweight or obese, said Dr. Denise Bruner, chair of the board of the American Society of Bariatric Physicians.

"This is one of the major health epidemics we're looking at in America," she said. "I truly see this as a very grave problem for which we in the public need to certainly be pro-active in terms of taking charge of our health."

Obesity should be treated and prevented more aggressively through public health programs to encourage healthy diets and exercise, said Michael Jacobson, executive director of the Center for Science in the Public Interest, a nonprofit health advocacy group.

"It would certainly make for happier lives, and also save medical expenses," he said. "A healthy population would save taxpayers a huge amount of money."

I read that Pan. I also understand obesity has been declared a disease, which means it will be covered under medicare/medicade.

I think that pesky little weight gain bug bit me too over the holidays. I had lost about 17 lbs and gained back about 5-7 by the end of New Years day. I am back on the weight loss road.

Youngest daughter just got engaged and I've got about 17 months to lose another 15 lbs. I think if I lose it slowly enough...it might stay off this time.

A mind set I have yet to conquer!

The problem is keeping the weight off. Its so easy to put the weight on in the winter with all the holidays, and cooking, and easier to loose in summer with all the outdoor activities.

I have gone back onto a diet I started 10 years ago. I lost 35 pounds in 3 months and kept it off for two years. Then I got married 8 years ago and have gained 40 pounds eating whtaever was put in front of me. My wife thinks I need much more food than I really do. I have a book called, "Food Counts" that give the calories, protein, colesteral, fat, carbs, and sodium contecnt of almost all the foods I have ever eaten. Even the menus of fast food places. I just write down everything I eat all day. If you see how much you are eating, it is easier to maintain the diet. You can eat anything you want, just limit portions.

easy, for sweets cooks like kimberly, sample only half a cookie, and dont lick all the frosting out of the bowl. for the portion folks, i use a smaller plate for a lot of meals, so you cant eat as much and if you dont get up for seconds, it will help.

even at a pound a month, for say 2 years, and even ading 2 pounds for 2 months for the holidays, it is a net loss of 16 pounds.

sounds easy huh. not, but it is a plan.

Lol Does sound easy Calmnude, but does it work? Hubby and the kids usually lick the spoons, bowls, and beaters, I have to even up the cookies, can't have an odd number. What makes me mad is my husband eats like there is no tomorrow and doesn't gain an ounce. I just look at a piece of cheesecake and I gain 5 lbs.
